Thib’s “victory” is the same as Hillary’s victory in the popular vote

There's a 65 year old lady in my office talking to a 55 year old male about Bitcoin going down $2,000 yesterday.

You can take this as really positive or really bad

When Bezos fully comes onboard, which I expect late 2018 based on the domain purchases made strictly for crypto purchases through Amazon, this market will double virtually overnight.

This is what I just don't understand about cryptos becoming a legit currency. Assuming Amazon does begin accepting them (seems crazy to me given the current volatility and the havoc that wrecks on financial projections for a public reporting company - Overstock, for example is down 13% today), who is actually using cryptos to buy legal goods? Everyone I know who holds cryptos is doing so for investment purposes. I don't believe any of them have plans to use for purchases in the near future. People on this board have said they aren't cashing out until it becomes a "universal currency" because the price could rise manyfold. But how does something become a universal currency if no one utilizes it for the intended purpose of currency? Am I taking a too America-centric view on things and holders of cryptos in other countries are more willing to trade them for fixed value goods?

Reminds me of the urban legend about Joe Kennedy getting out of the stock market just in time.

Has been and will continue to be my way of thinking until proven otherwise. The only domestic purchases I’ve heard of using it are for drugs

I've heard of houses and other goods being traded for bitcoins. Several, mainly online, retailers accept them. If they ever gain traction and become actual currency it will destroy the perceived anonymity of the currency.

If you truly believe in bitcoin there is no way you should be selling them or exchanging them for goods at this point.

I would imagine the owner/operators of the exchanges have some stake in bitcoin.

As it's been pointed out, they also make money from each trade that occurs.

"Oh shite! BTC has fallen to where it was 4 days ago! Pull the plug! Let's not make money on trades for a few hours and lose credibility too! Our single exchange can prevent this price drop if we act now!"

You think it went like that?

Oh shite! Someone flooded the market with counterfeit bitcoins again and we are going to be held responsible...again.

Again, that statement is exactly why I can't wrap my mind around bitcoin (or other cryptos). The value in cryptos is supposedly that it will become a universal currency and destroy reliance on fiat currencies. But how does that ever happen if no one is willing to trade them for actual goods or services (other than kiddie porn and drugs)? What is the event that is going to make them have value as an actual currency in trade rather than as just a speculative investment? And if that event were to happen, won't the value of cryptos plummet?

You should really research your investment.

You do realize these exchanges can be fooled with counterfeit currency, right? It is theorized that the higher the traffic the more likely to sneak one in.

Yeah the lady at Publix thought mine was fake but the brown marker she used showed it was real.

I think most in this thread do not see bitcoins as an actual universal currency. They just look at the potential and see it as their investment going up. Which is fine, probably true.

I'm not saying that you don't have potential to make money on bitcoin, it is currency trading. Bitcoins are a highly volatile currency. If you have the ability to day trade with them it is like playing penny stocks.

Cryptos have moved beyond this, for what it's worth.
