The vast majority of Russians live on the European Continent.

How have we come to identify the Oriental populous/food/culture as "Asian" ?
Somehow, Oriental became almost like the "N" word - certainly equivalent to "Negro" or "Colored" for sure. So, "Asian" kind of became the acceptable use for, particularly, East Asians - Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, Vietnamese, even Phillipinos, Indonesians, etc.
"Polynesian" has become the catchall for Pacific Islanders, but I'm not sure the latter term isn't better. Those from the Subcontinent are obviously different from East Asians, and they're different from Persians, Arabs, Kurds and other folks from SW Asia. And don't get me started on the Caucus region or Central Asia. Just the Asian portion of Russia has dozens of ethnicities/languages, etc., that can mostly be classified as Asian folks/languages.
When you figure that Asia contains roughly half the population of the planet - it's a big place geographically AND demographically.

It's one of those terms -- like "Native American" for Indian, "homeless" for vagrant, and of course our old friend "African American" for black, that infected American culture in the Clinton '90s. They are so ingrained now that even the most anti-PC people use them without thinking, e.g. "A bunch of drunken, lazy, worthless Native Americans."

Searching "Asian food" on the maps app doesn't return anything more than Chinese food....in the Houston area at least.

You are Asian if you are from Asia.
But I do usually differentiate Asian from India. Usually I would say that person looks Indian or Pakistani, not Asian.

Depending on the context:
1. shitty seafood grown in a sewer
2. spicy with a tinge of sweetness
3. complicated embroidery
4. would probably be smoking hot with fake boobs

We have an intern at work who is from Mongolia and is vehemently adamant to declare she is Mongolian....not Asian.
You mean she would prefer to be referred to as he specific national and cultural heritage, rather than a broad descriptive category? No shite.
