They have been notified that they will not have a job next year due to "staffing cuts" and no, they were not offered positions at Bullion. This is different than their contract not being renewed due to being a shitty employee. That happens every year to the crappy ones but this is a different situation.

I assume it means at their current job, if they have performance scores they will be moved

My wife is in the porn industry. If she ever gets fired she could find more work.

Come to think of it, she probably could!

Are they actual certified teachers? Or assistants & other school personnel?

Very, very far from the truth. A friend's wife is one of them and she just found out she doesn't have a job at the end of May. They're in their 20's, just got married a couple years ago, and just had a baby.

Last school year in St Bernard, we opened a new elementary school. They took the attendance zones for 5 schools and moved the boundaries around to create 6 zones. The end result was each of the existing 5 schools lost 100-150 kids. And as such each of the existing schools needed new teachers.
Even accounting for transfers, retirements, etc, there were a couple of teachers at each school that were told there was no position for them AT THAT SCHOOL for the next year, however, they absolutely had a spot at the new school or they could try to go through the transfer process to find a spot at another existing school.
This happened to a friend of ours, after 1 year at the new school she was able to transfer back to her prior school.
If the district is truly doing a RIF, there are certain rules that must be followed and everyone in the district would know about it. Otherwise, yeah maybe they are just being non-renewed due to poor performance.
If a school district as big and popular as APSB was doing a RIF I feel like it would be in the news, etc.

I can say with absolute certainty that AP Schools aren't laying off teachers. They are getting rid of underperforms before they get tenure and it becomes tougher.

Well I guess they're either lying or being lied to.

I wonder if they have already hired some new people. Laying off underperformers when you already have to staff two new schools takes some big balls. I like it, it needs to happen, but you better be sure you can hire enough new teachers.

AP is opening two new primary schools this fall and another middle school in 2020. They aren't laying off teachers due to budget cuts. Maybe the people you know just suck at their job and are getting fired. I teach in AP and we have a teacher at our school who didn't get her contract renewed because she sucks.
Any word on when the new P'ville High School will be built ?

Ascension has nothing to worry about, teachers from EBR, Livingston, Lafourche, Assumption, St. Tammany all apply plus the influx of new chicks

There's probably a new school opening that is taking some of the load of their school. Your friends weren't good enough to be recommended for transfer...

Next year, friends company has the contract to do the cooling unit

If they don't do their job in Ascension Parish, they are gone pecans. There is literally a line to take their spots.

My son starts at Bullion next year, and will eventually be at the new Prairieville High

How are they going to cut teachers when they're building new schools? Each of the two new primary schools is going to need 25+ teachers plus admin. They pull first from the existing schools whose districts are affected, but then those positions need to be back filled. AP schools are overflowing with students and the SB is flush with money. I don't see how any of that could be true.

I have seen school districts pink slip new teachers during shaky financial years. In these cases, they intend to re-hire the teachers, but they want the option not to be on the financial hook if SHTF moneywise.
