The other day my 6-year-old asked me, "Why is Santa magic? Is it because he isn't real?"

So I figure the Santa days are numbered already. Just hope she lets the 3-year-old enjoy it for a few years.

But Santa already has a minimalist presence in our house, because we want credit for the big-ticket gifts. Santa brings stocking stuffers only.

I can't wait to do Santa with our kid over the years (currently our first is 1 month old). I'm going to keep it going as long as possible with our children. Growing up in a very strict religious house we weren't allowed to believe in Santa Clause and even opened up Christmas presents on Christmas Eve so we wouldn't believe that a magical mystical guy who flies around the world to deliver presents. Ironically though we had to believe in another magical guy that lived in the sky and judged you all the time and once came back to life like a zombie.

Mine are 7 and 4. Everyday just gets better and better. They are so damn excited and I couldn’t be more grateful to be their mom. Christmas with young kids is simply the best.
