I don't think some people think through how much chaos abandoning a monogamous society would create. Or, maybe they do and they see it as way to "fight the establishment". Monogamy is actually a good thing for women; you think a guy is going to stick around and help raise that kid if he's one of 5 potential fathers? Most won't.

Take a look at traditionally matriarchal and polyamorous societies that have existed - they are mostly in Sub-Saharan Africa, and I believe a few places in South America (also Nepal). They are all shitholes.
