You have to understand this is simply a probable cause affidavit. The state is not required to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt by any means in establishing probable cause.

It is a virtual certainty that additional evidence exists to confirm this is the individual.

The more interesting question to me is this: all the evidence was there in 2017…why did it take so long to make the connection? I would *guess* that the extraction mark examination on the recovered shell were either overlooked or not scientifically accepted until 2022. It is an absolute miracle that he kept the handgun used in the crime, and thus they were able to establish the linkage in October of 2022 when the served the search warrant.

The worst thing they can do is know it’s him, but rush to trial without enough evidence, and have him acquitted.

If these were my kids, this would be the best case scenario…..

I have to think this is mainly why the prosecutor didn't want the PCA released publicly. Law enforcement looks really bad here. Also the prosecutor mentioned that releasing the PCA could hinder the investigation because of other parties could still be charged. The document doesn't really mention any other parties. The only person it possibly refers to would be Allen's wife for potentially helping cover up the crime.

There’s some smoke that Paul Holes, who played a very big part in the Golden State Killer case, helped out on this. If it ends up that Holes stepped in and said, “uh, let’s focus on this Richard Allen guy” and that’s what lead to this, it’s a really bad look for LE.

Cases like this are why village folks back in the day were all in on stoning.

Delphi Murders: Judge to Release Sealed Documents That Helped Put Accused Child Killer Behind Bars

quote:

Judge Fran Gull has reportedly promised to release certain sealed documents in the Delphi murder case against Richard Allen this week, following requests by a lawyer and several podcasters.

Apparently 135 previously sealed documents are being reviewed by judge for potential release some time this week, with unsealed docs to be posted on a public website (as yet unspecified).

Also the suspect in custody has reportedly admitted incriminating information 5-6 times while in custody, at least once in a recorded jailhouse call. His attorneys allege that his mental status has deteriorated while incarcerated and are seeking to have these admissions thrown out.

I follow several subreddits on this case and this information is gleaned from those.

I can’t quote the article because the website is wonky on my phone but it says in one paragraph that investigators and prosecutors sought to seal the documents and in the next paragraph it says in the request to unseal by the blogger that neither defense attorneys not prosecutors sought to seal the documents. I wonder which paragraph is true.

This case is full of contradictions. I think this judge is now trying to remedy some of them. I should add that she has set a trial date for January 2024.

The Kline guy who was arrested for CSAM (child sexual abuse material) might play into it, as he created and used the Anthony Shots fake profile that had been communicating with Libby German. There’s a lot of chatter on that he may have agreed to testify, but nothing official has been indicated so far.

I’ll say the scuttlebutt is that Allen admitted it to his wife in a jailhouse call. Apparently she’s only visited him once, last month with his attorneys. But that doesn’t necessarily tell us what led LE (back) to him. Did they have their sights on him all along or completely drop the ball that he volunteered he was on the bridge that day?

Update:

Judge ruled docs be unsealed in this case. One item unsealed was recording and transcripts of a jailhouse phone conversation between Richard Allen and his wife. In that phone conversation, Richard Allen admits multiple times to his wife that he committed the murders.
