I'd say that if they are threatening US lives then a response is warranted. Perhaps have an american fighter get between the two of them

Russia is trying very hard to become our rival. We need to be direct and forceful with our response.
The Russian Bear can keep poking the US Eagle if they want but sooner or later we will shite on you and there won't be a damn thing Russia can do about it.

I always laugh at these people.
The US is allowed to have bases, aircraft, and ships everywhere on the planet with no restrictions, but God forbid another country flexes its muscles.

There is no way our planes are alone.

Do we have fighters with a <5ft wingspan?

The last time the Americans and Russians played with each other in a military aspect, such as this, a Russian submarine was sunk. I don't think Russia truly forgave the US for that shite.

There is a difference between flexing muscles and that display.

Did anyone get shot? Get hurt? Plane crashed? NO. So why spend the resources on sending your recommended american fighter? What is that going to do? Waste jet fuel?

Flexing muscles is one thing but coming within 5' of another aircraft is reckless and could very well kill someone.
Trust me, I saw Russia "flexing their muscles" in real life while I was in the Navy. My father saw it during the Cold War in Germany. Do it but not in a way that endangers the crews. That's all i'm saying
ETA: I have had Russian spy ships cross the path in front of my sub while leaving port in Groton, CT. They weren't that close in my case but there were reported cases of the ships coming within 35yards of each other which is perilessly close at sea.
My ship also had to chase a Russian Akula away from our port in Kings Bay, GA when they were trying to track one of our boomers
My Dad was a mechanic/door gunner on a Huey on the late 70's. He told me that Soviet helos would mirror their every movement while they patrolled the border areas. His superiors would make them repaint the tail numbers and change uniform badges to make the Soviets think their were more US Army personel in Germany than the actual numbers.

Obviously I meant preventing them from getting that close in the first place.

If we were in Russian airspace then that's our fault.

I guarantee you we were in international airspace.
By United Nations convention, international airspace and international waters are anything beyond 12 nautical miles of shore. Russia and China both claim "territorial" airspace and waters up to FIFTY nautical miles from any nationalized landmass. Which leads to these situations when the US rightfully flies/navigates 12miles offshore.
The conflict in the South China Sea is directly related to China building artificial islands and then claiming everything within a 50 mile radius.
