Yes, people of all races do.

I agree they should have cleared him the moment they knew, but they were in full blown crisis mode. Officers were being murdered. They could have done better, but the reality is that their margin for error was pretty big at the time given the circumstances.
Yep, if this is the biggest gripe of DPD, they handled it near perfectly.

I get why this is so important to the 2 brothers, but they should have some sort of self awareness to understand the bigger picture, but it's painfully while they may not have wanted that specifically to happen, they aren't shunning the spotlight IMO.

Of all the shite going on, reports, misreports, trying to communicate which is virtually impossible across the board for these cops...and not to mention, while they could have made a tweet to clear him, this is priority #1million on the list for DPD. Again, I get why it's important to the brothers, I really do. But it's not very high on the priority list for DPD at that time and maybe got lost in the shuffle, I think anyone could understand that.

Walking in a demonstration while open carrying is dumb af.

I think their main beef (and a justified one) is that DPD twitter posted his shite all over social media and the news stations ran with his picture long after he had turned his gun in to police and began helping them.

They should have relayed the picture to the people on the ground to see if anyone had seen that guy or interacted with him during the initial shootings.

He turned his gun over and was initially questioned by cops at the scene minutes after the shooting began. Then hours after the shooting began DPD twitter blasts his photo to the world as a suspect/person of interest.

Then they wouldn't give him his gun back after he was 100% cleared of any wrongdoing.

Just because something is legal doesn't make it a very smart decision.

I think he's upset that it took them 8 hours to clear his name on social media. In the meantime he received death threats.

And, look, I get it. It's hard for me to fault DPD. Officers were being murdered, there was a bomb threat, and they still hadnt found those responsible. It was anarchy. Sucks for the guy but maybe now he sees how stupid it is to open carry a firearm during a protest that has the great potential for violence.

So let's say Dallas guy acted like stirling and didn't comply, Didn't respond to tasers and resisted arrest, all while he has his gun. You think he is alive today. He might be but the chances are much smaller than with what actually happened.

My point is that whether you like it or not, cops have authority and they get to dictate how things go. If you don't like it, fighting it in the street is a bad idea yet BLM and other leaders encourage people to do so.

No problem.

People are giving these guys shite for "not seeing the bigger picture" but I would be scared absolutely shitless if every person in the immediate area (and the country) are watching the coverage and then they announce that you've been named a person of interest/suspect in a mass killing of cops.

Think if he was walking to his car or something like that after the pictures were circulated. Someone recognized him and capped him because they thought he was the mass killer. Especially hours after he had been cleared of any wrongdoing, but hours before the police publicly cleared your name.

Step back and think man, it's not as if the people involved have all the facts and have time to be careful.

Information was fluid, rumors were rampant, and I'd bet communications with all the forces involved were extremely hard to digest and absorb.

Meanwhile the guy gets away or kills more cops, reaches a hidden bomb or who knows? The guy fit the description of the shooters. He needed to be identified and found fast. There's no time to keep it out of the public domain when he could have been off to do more damage.

I don't know the exact timeline but his photo was put out about 2 and a half hours or so after the initial shootings and when things were extremely hectic. CNN even had a witness LIVE with a photo of the same guy from behind and was pushing it hard. Right after that came the Twitter report.

I suspect they will in time, but in that situation disarming the guy seems to me to be a good idea.

This board goes apeshit whenever guns aren't given back the instant a person is cleared. I'm not disagreeing with you, but let's think about this board for a minute.

They are trained for intense and hectic situations. I think you are selling the DPD short on this one.

Come on man. You think I'm saying they should pull people off the swat team to look at this picture? DPD is aware of every single patrolman who was on the scene when the shooting began, and I'd guarantee virtually none of those guys were involved in the standoff that was occurring when this photo went out. Those were SWAT guys.

I turned on Fox News like 15 minutes or so after the shooting began and they were interviewing the guys brother who told the reporter that he had told his brother (the suspect) to turn his weapon over so he doesn't get shot by mistake. So the part where he turned his gun over, was initially questioned, and began assisting police with getting people to safety occurred long before his photo was tweeted out and sent to media.

I have been seeing this all over the facebook. Person of interest and suspect are not one in the same, but you can't fix stupid.

The police chief called him a suspect last night and urged people to call 911 last night so they could "bring him to justice" so it isn't that crazy some people think he is a suspect

I don't have a twitter, so I don't know. All news outlets had him labeled a person of interest.
