Rapidly becoming the Detroit of the south.

Look, I'm sorry about your city. It was once mine, too.
Prayers.
Prayers.

all the big time neighborhoods in BR are slowly declining.
I had family that lived in Broadmoor and Sherwood forest and it sucks to see the condition that its starting to go in.
All it takes is one Section 8 house to set off a flight/chain reaction.

The problem is infrastructure. Been a problem in Baton Rouge since forever. Also a problem surrounding parishes, that refuse to tax themselves to fix it, stupidly.
Infrastructure creates quality of life and attracts business. You don't need special tax breaks, pollution variances and another sorts of anti market nonsense

I'm not really bullish on Americans in general. A trip to the convenience store looks like a chapter in the fall of western civilization. That said, when I am not hypnotized by the neck tats and the near-impossible ignorance I see and hear on a daily basis, there are still some things to be optimistic about. Among those is that we are blessed to live in a place with tremendously friendly people. I prefer the good people of Louisiana to the good people of anywhere else I have ever lived.

You might want to check sales prices in Garden District, Goodwood, Capital Heights, Southdowns, Hundred Oaks, etc.

All the big plans for the LSU and downtown area suggest we're doing fine. Every city has its ghetto though. NBR is always gonna be NBR. We just need to keep it contained.
A disproportionate focus is being put on downtown, and meanwhile the rest of Baton Rouge declines. What you're going to have if you're not careful is an island of commerce and prosperity in 70808 and the LSU/downtown area and decline everywhere else. Which is how it is in most Democratic cities - an island where the white liberals live and poverty everywhere else.

I've been to 12 countries
Visited over 20 states
Have lived in Texas and Georgia
I don't think getting "out more" is the issue for me to see what BR truly is.

Exactly. You need to get out of Baton Rouge to see just how truly shitty it is.
Hell I went and visited some friends in Detroit (considered one of the worst shitholes worldwide) and there were still more redeeming qualities than BR. At least their downtown is awesome.

-bad healthcare
BR has a lot of good people
And Bad Healthcare isn't a BR problem, it's a nation wide issue.

It's a shite city. Gets seemingly worse every year

I hope a downtown of a metro area with 2+ million people is more redeeming than downtown BR.
Like I said, BR is nowhere near the best metro area of its size but it's not some decrepit shithole.

Not enough good school districts in East Baton Rouge....and too many are available outside the parish to be competitive.
I love Baton Rouge and I like what's been happening downtown, but I'm bearish.
They need a new, competitive school district.

that's racism, trying to keep the "culture" out of the area through artificially high home prices
glad you're proud of that

Some of y'all need to get out more and realize that BR is certainly far from perfect, but not the shithole the OT makes it out to be.
I don't think it's a shithole....but after seeing how hard the established power structure fought to protect the status quo with the St George debacle, I think the worst days for Baton Rouge are ahead of it.
Public schools are driving too many people to suburban parishes. Long term, neighborhoods in EBR will decline an the tax base will evaporate as young families continue moving to the suburban parishes.
