I'm the Godparent of Rummy's kid and he told me I have to pay for their college. Is that not correct?

Yes. Nothing "different" than I would usually as I'm an uncle. Would still be buying gifts, etc...

Maybe when he gets older I'll do some different things but as a youngster there isn't much expected.

That is most definitely correct.

Your Godchild says hello, BTW...

Well in that case, it should be said that becoming the godparent of one child means you should be ready to become the guardian for that child and all his/her siblings.

That fine print will get you.

I've got three goddaughters with my first godson on the way. I spend time with them and babysit when asked. I am supposed to help raise them in the Catholic faith.

There is no obligation to take them in if the parents die - that is a guardian and designated in the will. But if the parents die, I am supposed to make sure they are raised Catholic even if I'm not the guardian.

I miss my Paran (passed away 13 years ago at 50). Didn't get to see him alot but every morning my brother and I drove to high school, he would be sitting on the steps of his house drinking coffee and he would give me the middle finger salute every morning

I don't intend for my kids to go to different families should both me and my wife die.

They would probably go to either my sister or my wife's sister, both of whom are godmother to each of my sons. That is determined separate from the godparent choosing, which is all I'm saying.

Completely understood. Technically, the godparents are responsible for the child they sponsor, not the brood.

Your explanation makes sense, and if the godparents of children aren´t in close proximity, then, I think they´d have to be housed in the biggest household, and all share the financial backing.

It isn't a real expectation. I have plenty of Catholic friends and family members. Often enough they haven't even seen the godparents in years. They just get a card on their birthday if they are lucky.

It's like bridesmaids and groomsmen. You choose whoever you are close with at the time for the role and maybe some close family, and often enough you grow apart over time if you didn't pick a close family member. Nobody is giving their kid to Bob who used to grab beers with you when you were 25, and you haven't seen in years who doesn't really know your kids. The kids are going to a grandparent if they are still alive or an aunt or uncle.

I've never met anyone who took that responsibility seriously. Not in modern times.

Mmmh, my sister´s oldest corresponds to myself and my wife. We´d do it, in a heartbeat. It is a promise before God.

If one doesn't get asked to be the Godfather it probably means they thought you would take the kid to gentleman's clubs or something.
