Download Repeater Book on your phone and it will list all active repeater frequencies in your area.

162.400 is the WX frequency in Baton Rouge.

Ditto for New Orleans and NS....

I remember Google searching a while back and finding SW frequencies for FIRST RESPONDERS ...
I'll post if I can find them...

Did you break up with The News? They should have told you those are still your last resort for communication.

For BR, I’d monitor 146.79, 146.88 and 444.625.

If power outages become widespread, then 146.52.

For Ascension, 147.225.

I doubt it, but you can find some web sdr radios where you can probably pick up the nets on hf. They should be on 40 meters in the daytime and 75/80 meters at night. Later on when I get inside I’ll put together a list of all the frequencies to listen to for emergency traffic nets.

Comedian, huh?

Ham radio these days is Digital Mobile Radio, passing info through orbiting satellites, microwave signals and software defined radios with multiple receivers. It's not your grandad's radio anymore, however your grandad was a smart mf if he was a ham back in the day.
