What tha?!?! Maybe a YMCA but that's it, and that's as close to public as you can get.

Only place I could find was a place that seemed like it was for the "rainbow" crowd. While I'm not a homophobe, I do not want to get hit on all day either.

Google map this: LINK
1641-1679 Lake Terrace Dr, New Orleans, LA 70122
It doesn't look decent on the map, but it's actually pretty great. A cheap bottle of wine or some beers, and all the swimming your dogs can handle. They dug it out about a year ago. It is waist to knee deep. The only catch is about 1-2 feet of rocks right off of the steps. After that, it's a sandy bottom.

It's not so much that you'll get hit on, but that you have to look at old bear dong all day.
I've been there several times for their brunch and never saw anything like that. The crowd is mixed gay and straight and includes quite a few neighborhood people. I never felt uncomfortable there, but then again I didn't use the locker room.
I had a professor in college who used the salt-water pool at the New Orleans Athletic Club just about every day for years. Not sure if it's still open.

Get used to it if you're going to live in New Orleans. They don't bite.

Indulge has new owners. Hopefully the douche crowd has moved on with the old owner.
