re: Are “service fees” and “restocking fees” the biggest “in your face” scam today?

I recently have been shopping for a new vehicle and one dealer had listed a $11.25 "tire fee" on a purchase agreement. I asked what that was and they said under Louisiana Law they have to charge $2.25 for each tire they sell. It goes toward a tire disposal fund for the state. Since the car has four tires and spare, that's $11.25. I asked, isn't that part of the price of the car? They said that they HAD to charge that as separate line item charge or they would breaking the law. I told them I had visited three other dealers and none had the "tire fee". The slime ball salesman said that when the state found out, they would be facing a hefty fine.
I left a few minutes after that exchange and don't plan to go back k.

Why should my taxes subsidize your speeding ticket?

in 1954 Mad Magazine did an issue on car mechanics.
the bill was part of the joke. one line was the "fee fee".

But my company lost a million dollars last year because they won't charge the 3% on credit cards.
No they didn’t. An expense is not a loss. Credit card fees are part of the cost of doing business. And charging the 3% comes with problems of its own, and a lot of people won’t pay it and you will lose business.
Restocking fees are different, as they have to account for a percentage of returned goods that can’t be resold.

Got the check at a New Orleans restaurant and it had a “kitchen welfare” charge. I just deducted it from the tip.

Just bought a fishing license online and there was a $5 convenience fee. What kind of Edwin Edwards bullshite is that?
