We (my high school/employer) have a non-college track, and it seems to work well. We have several courses/certifications that get kids jobs before they even graduate.
But we're also one of the best public schools in the state in a good community with lots of great kids.

My post was simply to illustrate the cries of unfair and racism that would follow adoption of a two-track system.
Personally I am all for it.

quote:What about the many tests along the way that schools get scored on? Or the ACT that all students have to take as part of school scores?
Some public schools just go ahead and keep passing them and give diplomas so they score higher on their rankings.

As long as the student average has a certain percentage they are fine

It should always be about doing what's best for the kid, but that ship sailed when parents decided the teacher was a baby sitter, and was the one at fault when their kid struggled.

I won't lie, this year has been rough. I feel bad for the kids that want to learn but are in a classroom with those that are just at school for me to babysit. I spend more time correcting students than teachers.
