My wife says yes drinking in the front yard watching traffic is trashy. Can we address that here or should I start my own?

There are lots of different styles. If you put an overstuffed baggy-looking one in a formal living room, yes it looks tacky. If you can find one that's comfortable but very tailored looking, she might come around.
Also, she might not want the couch to be away from the wall to allow it to recline.
