If it's truly a joke, is it really racist? Or is it just lighthearted social commentary and comedic stereotyping?

Isn't true racial harmony the ability to zing one another and both sides laugh about it together?

I'd like to think so.

Don't toss Dave Chappelle in there as some sorta edgy comic who still does racist material because he doesn't. At least not in the classic sense.

I saw the special you're referencing in that GIF. He made fun of two races. Asians and whites, that's it. If you're black, you can get away with making fun of the two races in this country that generally have it pretty good. Or you can make fun of one race, that is so few in numbers, no one cares. Also, he used his Asian wife as a pass to be able to frick with them. Pretty frickin' weak.

If Chappelle had any stones at all, he'd make fun of jews, arabs and mexicans but he doesn't. He made his choices carefully.

Chapelle's a puss. He made fun of whites and asians because he knows it's acceptable. Whites are filled with self hatred and guilt so they'll laugh about it. Asians are so few in numbers, no one cares.

Bill Burr gets away with it and uses his black wife to give him social permission.

But should he really need permission?

To quote the man himself, "You don't get to tell me what I meant "

Nowadays, he does need permission and yes. The offended gets to tell him what he meant.

The comic telling the joke doesn't get to decide if it's racist. But one single person within that race does gets to decide.

Ironically, that is a regressive world to live in, and the movement is being pushed by self-described progressives.

bullshite. His lived experience with his wife supersedes what others have to say about it. He doesn't need anyone's permission. If people are offended, tough shite.

A black guy walks into a bar with a parrot on his shoulder.

The bartender says “He’s something else, where’d ya get him?”

The parrot answers, “_______. _______________________________.”

see, now some of you are just using this as an excuse to be racist.

Im referring to real social criticism presented with wit and humor. You, stupid rednecks, are too stupid to understand any of that
