Are people like Jessi Combs selfish?

Here's a young woman, 36 years old, who had her entire life ahead of her and she basically threw it in the trash. For what? To break a world speed record? Now her family, friends, etc. are in mourning because she had to be selfish and try to be a hot shot.
I know that your life is yours and you can do anything you want, as long as you aren't hurting anyone, but I can't help but see this shite as selfish. There are people dying of diseases who would love to just have a healthy life to enjoy and others who are healthy just throw it all away.
I'm not a risk taker, so maybe I just don't "get it", which is fair.

She has the right to live her life the way she wants, neither you or I have to agree with it but it was her right. Some people like to push the envelope, to break records and be remembered for history while some just like to be low key.
