And for a personal, day to day vehicle, a Wangler is a terrible vehicle. It's a side piece, not the main course.

If buying new, look into joining Treadlightly at the $100 membership level. You then qualify for Chrysler affiliate program and get 1% below invoice with no haggling. Some dealerships give more. Great for special order if don't want model on lot. I got 3% below invoice which was about 10% below sticker on special order. I could have pushed for more but dealer was very nice and easy to work with.

I did the same thing. Only got the 1% though. Still a great deal.

Yes, it is a great deal. It also made the process easy and the special order was nice. My name was one the sticker from the factory.

Is the Treadlightly discount just for Wranglers? Thinking about going the Grand Cherokee route in the next year or so.

Yeah that doesn't make any sense. My jeep is not loud and very comfortable. It's been my everyday driver the past 4 years. I've taken it on several long road trips and felt the seating was just fine. Maybe his only experience with a jeep wrangler was a older, soft top one? The soft tops can be loud.

I love mine. 2 DR manual. It's hard to find them now with the majority being autos. No major issues and I'm at about 80k miles - 5 yrs old.

Expect that if you start taking panels off, it's going to leak. Other than that, it's just like any other vehicle. The only negative I have is that mine was specifically ordered to have the least electronics as possible. I knew I would be leaving it to the elements and I didn't want power doors or windows to fail. That being said, newer keeps are still full of shitty sensors and computerized crap that can go out and leave you stranded.

I had two wheel speed sensors go out already that screwed with the ABS and traction control. Fortunately it's a manual so I was able to disable the features and drive with the warnings lit. $200 later the dealer changed the sensor. Twice.

Well that's not entirely true. Most of my buddies with jeeps have actually extended their wheelbases.

Also, while jeeps with hard tops may not be terrible on the road, they are still not "comfortable" compared to other SUVs. Solid front axles and removable tops make this impossible.

No. Almost all Chrysler vehicles. I think SRT Grand Cherokee is excluded. Google chrysler affiliate rewards and you should find rules and lists of companies that qualify. Employees of companies get it. Treadlightly is one anyone can join to get benefit.

I guess I was wishful thinking when I was hoping for Toyota 4runner type reliability.

My next car I would be keeping for 10+ years, so I dont want a car that is constantly in the shop.

I like the looks, but the reliability just concerns me for how long I intend on keeping it.

The things are reliable. There is a reason they have been in production for so long and have now surpassed Toyota in sales. If you are that worried about it, mopar will sell you a factory back lifetime unlimited mile warranty. I paid 2k for it.

They are cool is the reason they've been in business so long.

I bought a 2000 Sport with a 6 cylinder brand new. I have put over 200K miles on it and have spent very little on maintenance. i'd guess I've spent about $2500 in repairs over 18 years. Most of that was two events, replacing the heater core and I had a cracked head at 200K miles. I disagree with them being unreliable. How many broken down Wranglers do you pass on the highway?

You can buy my 4dr 4x4 4.0 L manual Tacoma (2013)...it's going to last forever.

We're getting a new XC60 mid September, so I'm about to put my baby on the market. Sad face.
