And I guess what boards, as I said.

Step one?

Residentcy?

10 yearly whatever it is called?

I am talking about specialty boards after residency.

Board Certification is a voluntary process, and one that is very different from medical licensure. Obtaining a medical license sets the minimum competency requirements to diagnose and treat patients, it is not specialty specific. Board Certification demonstrates a physician’s exceptional expertise in a particular specialty and/or subspecialty of medical practice.

All of what you said is untrue in regards to medicine. Boards as in step123 are directly related to obtaining a license and being able to practice and are directly viewed for residency. Sub specialty boards are viewed by hospitals when determining hospital privileges Which directly affects your ability to practice medicine Effectively

Mind if I pick your brain off the site? Have a question about the job search within the tax law field you practice.

I was talking about specialty boards. From my experience, a doctor will says they are taking the boards they mean their specialty boards. If they are take a Step test then they will say they are taking Step 1, etc.

Within their profession, I wouldn't know. As for the public, I couldn't care less. Especially considering most PA's are doing a lot of surgeries these days while the docs play on their iPhones.

True. Some hospitals or private practice are hard asses about it. Its not like the insurance company will reimburse you at a higher rate if you are board certified.

Specialty boards are looked at by hospitals for privileges etc. if a hospital won't give you privileges then 95% of specialties can't practice

Now if you are 65 and have passed the boards 5 times and don't fee like taking it again and have practiced in the same place for 30 years it is looked at differently. But if you are new to the town new out of residency then you need to pass

No, you aren't looked down on but you could possibly lose the job you had wrapped up before the bar, which depending on a few other factors could really derail your career. Ie if it was a particular field you wanted to practice in and then you can't find a replacement in that field, you can probably kiss that field goodbye as switching fields is pretty difficult later on.

If none of that happens you're fine.
