Build a nuclear plant near every data center. Problem solved.

As said, they require a lot of water and energy, but they will almost certainly become more optimal given time. People act like new technology is static and want improve over time, but that’s never the case.

If Bernie is against it, then I’m for it.

They should make them use local contractors and vendors. Way too many out of state companies taking the money out of the local economy.

I agree that they should be self sustaining once in operation. They can make their own electricity. Water is my concern

And make the data center company pay for it.

Agreed.

Can they not just pipe water from the Mississippi to the META plant? Why does it need to be ground water?

How much of the data is worth saving?
Perhaps we might have learned when people had walls of video tapes of their children learning to----------------fill in the blank. How many videos were converted to CDs? one percent? maybe.
How many selfies are going to be stored for as long as the data centers keep whirring?
How much electricity will it take to keep the obama presidential not-a-library stored? Eight years of everything he said, did or was seen doing?

They also sell them as jobs for the local economy, but once built, these places don’t sustain the local economy.

They likely require minimal manpower to run and will likely use outsourced manpower.

This isn’t like building a factory.

The actual benefits are really small, IMO.

Which costs more?

Miles of water pipe, likely requiring extensive red tape to place, or pumping from groundwater?

I am guessing it requires clean water.

The data centers are parasites as the Carpet Baggers count

We will all suffer if they are not self sufficient

They can power their data center, and sell power to recover costs. Win, win.

Our shitty infrastructure won't be able to handle them. Your average citizen will be footing the bill for improvements.

Depends on if they are getting the powerplant infrastructure to support it. The energy generation is where the more dense jobs/acre are.

The thing in St Francisville might be okay. The center itself won’t generate a lot of emissions. It will be hidden behind trees and hills. It’s large but not massive. It might bring in 50 jobs at most.

But the new natural gas units Entergy is standing up could be really good for that area. And this also could make it easier to eventually justify another recertification of the reactor there. That could be another 50-100 jobs long term.

IDK about Meta in Richland Parish. That site would be perfect for a giant automotive factory that employed thousands. But those aren’t built every year, and the site was always “second favorite” for manufacturers that built elsewhere. So I guess this is the most optimal alternative.

It’s Our ground water. Water does not reproduce itself. Water will be the next Gold Run. Ask Exxon and the plants in BTR why they use ground water and not pull from the Mississippi

Sounds good, doesn’t work. Companies like Meta have zero knowledge or expertise in operating generation assets. That’s why they do JVs with utility companies.

Look at Turkey and their massive sinkhole problem to see what happens when you deplete groundwater.

The fact that the greatest nation on the face of the earth is struggling to ramp up the production of electricity should be alarming for everyone.
