To me there is still a ton of value in bluray, namely HD audio. Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master through a good receiver make a huge difference to my ears compared to the 5.1 formats that current streaming tech makes use of.

This. And its also nice to have physical media when the cable/internet is out.

Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc are already killing blu ray

Vudu, HBOGo, etc. as well. I bought a Blu-Ray the other day for $50 just because my kids still tend to get movies and shite for gifts.

When will fricking Vudu come off that $6 or $7 rental fee for an HD version of a movie. It's $1.60 at a redbox(which clearly has much higher overhead than VUDU). Baffling. When they get to $3-$4(like old school blockbuster VHS), I'll do nothing but rent form streaming services. They could shut Redbox down if they came off even $2.

Im guessing you meant "are not", why are they not able to upgrade the firmware?

Certain players do not come equipped with the plugs needed to download said upgrades or it depends on the type of tv you buy. As mentioned above, it is still cheaper to rent a hard copy then it is a digital one which is asinine.

Why take up all that space when you can stream the movie you want from Amazon or Netflix straight to your TV.

Bandwidth caps.

So you made a premature statement, that at the time was inaccurate, and you're bragging about it? The fact that we are NOW talking about its inevitable demise 5 years later, essentially disproves your statement, and makes your gloating reference to it to be quite strange to say the least.

Facebook apparently just invested tons of cash in a blue ray data backup.

Whatever happened to buying a disc and being able to watch a movie?

Well there's no way to continually extort money out of people with this mindset. We're slaves to ever changing technology. Deal with it.
