Eyeing getting a 21' Tahoe/Yukon.

The 2021 5.3’s have an issue with lifters failing.

We had one that had issues under warranty and they repaired it. It should be a recall issue but it is not.

I have a 2016 GMC 2500 gasser with the 6.0L that has 88,000 miles on it without any issues, knock on wood. Prior to that I had an 03 Tahoe that I purchased in 08. Sold it last yr with 235,000 with no major issues besides the usual throttle body issue.

Have 150k on one ride and 101 on another.

I will weep when it's time to buy again.

Talked to a friend today that just got out from his ‘24 AT4 truck. Have a bro in law who did the same. Know of another whos new Tahoe left him stranded on the interstate. Just seems like a way too frequent occurrence to consider purchase if these $70k+ vehicles

Never owned a Chevy/GM, but seriously considering the 2025 Suburban Z71 diesel engine. Can anyone chime in on these specifically?

LMAO....as I stated, I have 2 currently....normal logic would say that one is for myself and one is for someone else, like my wife...now redo your math on how long I would be keeping a vehicle.

Try harder

My mechanic says anything GM past 2010 is awful. I have a 4 Runner and tacoma so can’t say from experience

I have a 2014 GMC 3500HD Gas and it has been flawless. Only has about 140K on it but the only issue it has had is one of the marker lights leaks if it rains in exactly the right direction and the low beam headlamps are a double barreled bitch to replace. And the battery tray is to small to accommodate a larger sized battery so you either gotta buy the right size or jerry rig the one you could get when you needed one and make it work. Other than that its been perfect.

So to make this trick reliable, you need a top end engine and transmission rebuild? No thanks.

Tell me about it.

On one hand, I can buy a GM SUV, spend thousands swapping out the cam and lifters, spend thousands more upgrading the transmission, and then have to pray the electronics hold up after that.

On the other hand.. buy a Toyota.

Give me door number two there Mr game show host.

Toyota needs to design and build a diesel 3/4 ton and just finish off the big 3

I bought a new Truck in 2023, it's almost embarrassing to admit what I paid for it vs what it's worth today.

Terrible investment, if I had to do it over I'd buy one used with 20-30K miles on it

In my area one with less than about 50K is about as much as you can get a brand new one for if you shop. They are all INSANE!

I am seriously thinking about restoring my 72 short bed with a small block crate engine and transmission from around 2006 or so and keeping it running until I reach room temperature. Complete off frame restoration and all new sensors and electronics, basically make it a 2006 with a 72 body. I can do it myself for around $20K. Put my company name on the side of it and use it to deliver harwood lumber and furniture I build and write it off as an advertising expense....

I could see restomods becoming more common in the coming years. Sounds like yours would be an LS engine build and you could easily get 300-500k miles out of that motor.

I pulled up to a traffic light yesterday and there was a newer Silverado just tap tap tapping away in the engine bay. I looked at the front and then to the driver and the look I got was “yeah I know.”

My cousin had a new one with the 5.3 and the friggen camshaft broke in two on I40 in TN. Had it towed to the local Chevrolet dealer there and they couldn’t touch it for a month. Had a shop full of em. Paid to have a tow to the local dealer and they got to it faster. That truck is now somewhere else.

Probably the best for reliability but I’m still partial the the 90’s models.

I had a 95 Z71 Sliverado. I sold it to the meatcutter at my uncle's Piggly Wiggly in Eutaw, AL in 2004 with 225,000 miles on it. I saw it last weekend; it's still kicking 20 years later. That thing was a beast. Besides changing brakes and tires, the only issue I ever had was a power steering fluid leak.

Had to have the transmission and top end on the motor redone on my 16 Sierra before 90K miles. The only GM halfton I would buy is the 3.0 and the transmission is still a worry on that.

All new trucks are fricking worthless now.

If I was buying new I would get an F150 with the 5.0 and just hope the transmission last.

I've had 3 recently and bought several more since 2007ish.

All have been fine. 6.7's and 5.0

The only one I hated was a 2005? KR with the 5.4.
