Oh, right.

Because that is all phones are used for.

The difference is the life cycle. People often by a $1500 laptop with the intention of keeping it longer than 2 years. People get stupid about having an "old phone" after about a year and a half. I don't get it.

No thanks. I'll stick with my superior and cheaper Galaxy.

People generally put many more "miles" on their phone than their laptop.

iPhones were always very expensive. People just didn’t realize it because of the way carriers did things back then. An iPhone 4 was $700 in 2010 off the shelf.

of having something in your pocket that can do most things a laptop can do? sometimes better

I don't have to print out a boarding pass, its on my phone.
I don't have to stop at the bank, I can just take a picture of the check and deposit it that way.
I pay all my bills with my phone.

You can't deny having a super computer in your pocket isn't convenient.

btw what kind of phone do you have?

You don't need a $1000 phone to do any of those things

My Samsung Galaxy J3 works great and cost like 1/10th of the price of that. Luckily I don't need insane storage - but its fast, does what I need and I won't start crying if I drop it in the water.

It may be but it's not convenient for real work like papers, spreadsheets, different types of documentation, photoshop, architectural and graphic design or pleasure things like Skype, surf internet porn, watch movies on a bigger screen and so on.

A smart phone can only take you so far.

I have a Galaxy S8. They are $500 now and many places rate them higher than iPhones.

I paid $700 or $800 when it came out a year or two ago. Paid cash so dont remember exactly how much.

Anyway, I'll laugh at anyone paying 1500 for an iPhone.

Spot on. The limiting factor is the interface, not speed or power. Make a phone that seamlessly docks with a full size keyboard and monitor and we'll talk.

I mean I don’t disagree. I’m not saying throw all your computers away and only work off of your phones.

I’m saying smartphones have revolutionized society and made huge impacts on our everyday lives.

Again, the cost of an iPhone hasn’t really changed that much.

Back in 2010 when I got an 32g iPhone 4, I paid $300 up front and was locked in to a 2 year contract.

The phone was $700 off the shelf ($800 when adjusted for inflation).

8 years later, you can get an iPhone with twice the storage (the most expensive aspect of a phone) that makes the iPhone 4 look like an Atari 2600 for $300 more.

People just didn’t understand for years how much these phones actually cost so $1100 seems insane.

It’s not.

So 2 years ago you paid 800 bucks for a phone and now it's absurd someone might by 1100 bucks for a phone?
