anyone who ascribes this as the ATF being tone deaf doesn't know the ATF ... they're not tone deaf, they're flaunting it in our faces

Not exactly apples to apples, but does Japan celebrate deaths of their "brave" kamikaze pilots from WW2?

There are some similarities. Kamikaze pilots were brainwashed into believing they were sacrificing themselves for the greater good. They were lied to and used, but they did have free will to back out at anytime.

Many of the rank and file ATF and FBI agents on the ground during the initial raid (not the raid that burned down the complex) were given very little background about the Branch Davidians, or the investigation that preceded the raid. They were also lied to and used by their superiors.

However, they also had free will to pause and ask questions before they went guns ablazing into a compound housing dozens of innocent women and children.

Why exactly did they decide to break the siege by force

Other than “the whole thing was fricking embarrassingly” I mean.

They clearly weren’t going anywhere. ATF could have kept having Metallica on the speakers for months until they wanted to ride the lightning.

Does freedom of religion include knocking up an 11 year old girl?

Because all this started with the State of Texas, Dept of Child Services wanting a word about an 11 and 12 year old females that were not magically impregnated on the compound.

Despite repeated attempts to get JC2 to send the children out, he wouldn’t.

Janet Reno gave 2 different answers when she was asked by Clinton "Why can't we just wait it out?."

First she said "every minute we delay there are children being abused and tortured "....which was a lie

Then when this lie was pointed out to her she said

"It would cost too much".

Which goes to show the government only cares about the budget when YOUR life is too expensive.

Which is darkly funny because the whole reason for this frickup is that ATF wanted to raise their profile in order to get more funding.

I guess they didn’t want that funding to cover the siege caused by their stupidity.

it's not a coincidence that the operation was code named "Showtime" by ATF/FBI

A six-month investigation by the Texas Department of Child Services turned up no evidence of this. And besides, this is what the ATF used as an excuse after shite hit the fan. What they were really there for were the weapons Koresh and his cult had stockpiled inside the compound.

Link the negative result from Texas.

And answer the question, why wouldn’t Koresh send the children out.

Didn't DCS say they found no evidence of abuse?
Didn't the government lie about drugs in the compound so they could get military equipment and support?
Wasn't the CS used on the compound illegal to use in warfare?

The solution is to bring tanks in and destroy everyone and everything, including the children, which the government cared oh so much about.

That was one of the worst days in this country's history

Uh didn’t Koresh send out a bunch of kids during the siege?

And supposedly didn’t a bunch of older kids refuse to leave (setting aside the question of whether they could be forced to) when it was reported widely they separated the kids from their moms and interrogated them?
