I beseech ye oh great and wise OT for advice on places to stay in the Appalachians mountains for my family which consists of many children, myself, and my wife who is way finer than any of yours. I am looking for a place where there are plenty of family activities, so not a remote area, but not Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge as we have already been there a couple of times. I have looked into the Blue Ridge area, do any of you have experiences there? I would say that North Carolina or Virginia is about as far north as I would want to go. Any recommendations or first hand experiences would be most appreciated.

We just rented a house with a boat on Lake Lure NC and it was fantastic. We had a bunch of kids with us and they loved it as well.

Asheville is pretty great. Probably more fun for adults, but you should be able to keep the kids entertained for a few days.

Live and work in Asheville. If you haven't been I think your search ends here.

Rent a cabin at the NOC in by Bryson City in NC. Wonderful place. You can watch the professional kayakers play in the river. Raft the Nantahala in a Ducky. Laid back and they have a great bar right on the river.

Not a touristy spot either. I couldn't stand Gatlinburg.

Zipline and other stuff there also. We rented tubes and floated Deep Creek in GSMNP one day. Went swimming in Fontana Lake. Appalachian Trail hikers pass through and are always fun to talk with.

Definitely the right choice for kids. I don't see how church groups go down the Ocoee or Chattooga, hell I've seen them on the Cheoah. That shite is too heavy for young'uns.

Hendersonville NC is pretty awesome, but we were staying in my buddy's million dollar house at champion hills cc.

Yep. The Nantahala is perfect for first timers. And the duckys make it a challenge.

Just make sure to wear the wetsuits provided. That is colder than glacier water in Montana.
