Is Lafayette really that nice Epic? I mean ....was he really trying to compare Lafayette to Scottsdale as if it's just as great for half the cost?
he got those laffy blinders on. either that or he has carbon monoxide poisoning due to being stuck in traffic for most of his life.

Thanks for the responses. I realized a while ago that I need to get out and go NP or CRNA route, and these responses only validated that notion. Am only looking to work as RN for another year to pay for my wedding and other expenses, then back to school at the ripe age of 30. Better late than never.

I can't speak for Lafayette, but I just graduated nursing school in December and got an offered an icu job at West Cal-cam in Sulphur for $19.50/hr. Turned it down. I'm only staying local a year to get experience then going to to BR, Nola, or Houston.
Wow, for ICU?! You should have been insulted by that offer. I know nursing assistants that make that.
Get 2 years experience and then you can go travelnurse. ER and ICU travel nurses can usually find assignments anywhere they want and are typically the highest paid travel nurses. Plus you can specify in your contract you won't work holidays and they have to honor it. Congrats on graduating

Thanks nurse
. I was shocked it was so low. I love psych and stayed in that area and for more money. I wanna be a psych NP so it made more sense for my career goals to stay and get that nursing experience straight out of school.

Back to topic. OP needs to get out. Louisiana is a dead end for nursing from a financial stand point. Salary will be very stagnant.
Meh
I worked in a small icu in a large regional referral center (2008-2012). We had 16 nurses. I know for a fact at least 4 made over 100k/year working 7 out of 14 days. That's pretty damn good money. All 4 had associate degrees.
You won't get rich doing it, but it's not a bad living.

No joke. I know I'm a know I'm a new grad but I was kind of insulted.

Hey!! How's my fellow pug loving RN doing?
Posted on 2/7/15 at 7:19 pm to SW2SCLA
As a new grad, I opted to not take benefits, and made $28/hr doing nights in ICU (2006). I've had several jobs since and never made a lateral or lesser move.
Op, I know several people at HHL. Pay seems to be comparable to others in town. The one place you DONT want to work is RMCA.. HCA hospitals are dog shite

Yea, applied to do a contract w/ RMCA last year and didn't take the offer...heard to many bad things that $42/hr wasn't worth the headaches.
I actually work PRN in the ED at Lourdes and enjoy it there, but even the PRN pay is crappy. Refuse to work as a full-time staff over there with their base pay and no weekend differentials...f that. Put in application to Heart Hospital in for PCU...hope it pans out and they can be at least competitive with the pay.

I've thought about moving to Laffy in a year, but I'm not crazy about living there if the money isn't that much better
