Anyone who recently built do hybrid batt/spray insulation

In the planning stages for next house, got spray foam bid back at 25k. Batt would be around 7k. Vendor said this is what he just did to his personal home, 1/2" spray filled with batt and got best of both world, would be around 12k. 1/2" foam also helps keep batt in place, another pitfall it has.
Anyone?

I've never understood this to be honest. I know it's for cost savings and still getting foam but they don't make batting that is only 2" thick (really 1.5") unless I just have never seen it. If you are putting 2" of foam then you will have to force the batting into the wall and batting will actually lose it's R-Value when you start compacting it together to make it fit. Knowing this, the only benefit of the batting in this scenario is to fill in the wall cavity so there are no air gaps that could potentially lead to sheetrock sweating.

Plus, more foam is not necessarily better. I used 2x6 studs and still didn't want to fill the cavity. Doing that would've led to the problems you alluded to.
OP should just go one way or another. Foam, incorrectly applied, can lead to a ton of problems. This hybrid deal sounds like the answer to a question nobody asked.

That does seem extremely expensive. I just had a 2800 sq foot heated complete foam for 9,500.

did you get a price for fiberglass as well?

That's only part of the equation. Another important factor is to tell folks, hey I've got a 5,000 sq ft house and my utility bill is less than $150/mo. Or whatever amazing fact is pertinent. Especially if their house is 1500 sq ft and their utility bill is $200+ a month.

Whatever you do, avoid batts completely. BIBs system is much better.
I have closed cell in my walls - and it's only 2" thick FWIW. Open cell in the attic.

House is almost 6k under roof, so it's a lot of foam. As far as the fit, if you only spray 1/2" of foam for leakage factor, batt should squeeze in.

25k vs. 7k I can't really understand this I don't think takes a while to rack up 18k in electric bills

Conventional insulation cost would be about 3,500 to 4000 for the whole house.

dont even consider closed cell on a stick frame house. you WILL be asking for long range probs.

I did it 2 years ago and it was one of the best descissions I made.
3200 sq/ft and yet to have an electricity bill over $200. Also, did some work in the attic this summer and it was doable. Not cool, but not Insanely hot like a normal attic.
