simplisafe
if so, thoughts?
seems to be a great solution versus being locked in with a security company

Yes, I have SimpliSafe and it works exactly as it should. It is very easy to install (peel and stick) and I have yet to experience any problems. I have set it off when I have forgotten about it so I know it works. I opted for the $24.99/month plan so I could control my alarm system from my phone...which is really nice when you are in bed and too lazy to get up and walk to the keypad. But, if you wanted to take the cheaper route, they have a $14.99/month plan too (assuming you even want it monitored it all). The biggest problem is waiting to get the permit from the Sherriff's office (or local police department depending on where you live). You have to pay $25 for that and it took a couple of weeks before I received my permit back. After that...I was good to go.

I'm In BR
So you have to get a permit for a home security?

Yep. Over two years with no problems. 14.99 plan. No permit required for my location. If I set it off... in less than 2 minutes I get a phone call. The savings on Homeowners insurance has almost paid for the system I bought. Would buy again.

Vyvint is the best security company out there

So if you get a system, your home insurance rate goes down? didnt know what you meant

yes, if the system is monitored...to where the police would be called if you had an alarm...you have to get a permit. I am in Baton Rouge and it costs me a one time fee of $25. It's a simple one page form with basic information and again it took about 2 weeks to get done.

I have had it for two years. Love it. My parents also bought a system. Works flawlessly. Would buy again.

If your home is already wired for a security system, you can likely get a monitored system from a local company for a similar or even smaller monthly fee. I like that my system has battery backup and is connected by phone line, internet, and cellular.
SimpliSafe is only connected by cell, but that'd really only be a problem if a storm took out cell towers but left the phone line in tact or something. It's a very small concern. The only other thing I dislike about them is that their window and door sensors could be less conspicuous. They aren't obnoxious or anything, but since I already had built in sensors in my windows and doors that are not visible, I was glad to go with a company that could make use of them.
If my home wasn't pre-wired though, I'd probably have gone with simplisafe, if for no other reason than to avoid having to wait on an installation guy to come out, take forever, and do a shitty job wiring up a conventional system.

i see that the cameras are indoor... i was hoping to have it overlooking the cars in the car port.
do you think it would come in clear recording through the window that faces the cars?
also, i find my wifi to be slow in some parts of the house.. will that affect it?

We have it. It was very easy to install and works as it should. Only thing I've had to do in 2 years was reset the base a couple times(very easy just unplug and plug back in) to reset system.

Check with your Homeowner provider. YMMV. System needs to monitored. Be sure you get a couple of smoke detectors. I think my rate decrease was due to them.

Yeah, I guess a monitored burglar alarm can affect your insurance rate, but not by enough to make it worth it for that alone. A monitored smoke detector though will often pay for itself, and sometimes even more.

What packages did you guys go with?

I just saw your post. I went with a basic one... then customized it for my house...adding motion sensors and two extra sirens.

I use Datsyoass by Mossberg. Onetime payment.

I installed this system in our camp before we sold it and it worked great. One thing I found out is the base units are made with either a Verizon cellular board or I believe Sprint was the other. My original unit came with Sprint and I started having connection problems so tech support suggested switching it over to Verizon, which ended up solving my problem.
Just something to keep in mind if you know one of those services doesn't have good coverage in your location.
Would def use again if the opportunity presents itself.
