Stores install the self checkout because it's cheaper and more efficient. That means they can reduce prices. And the fact that checking myself out is faster than someone who gets paid to do it as several people have stated is proof that these people deserve to be replaced.

It's obvious you haven't had the pleasure of meeting some of the finest Walmart cashiers

That's kind of a big deal. Now, if the cashier is cute...

I had no clue we had so many people on the spectrum on the OT. I prefer the self checkout be cause I can do it quickly and bag my own shite, but avoiding the regular lines so you don't have to say "I'm doing well, how are you?"

I really like the scan as you go with apps. Makes it pretty damn easy.

Had a cashier tell me it was rare for people to sort their cold and frozen stuff together on the belt for bagging like I do.

That’s when I knew I was qualified and ready to try self checkout.

Me!!
I feel like an a-hole but if I wanted to check out items, I’d work there.
Also, using self checkout only cuts down on actual jobs for the community.

they don't teach that anymore. I worked in a grocery store for 3 years as a teen. bagging correctly was a big deal.

You know what else I refuse to use? Toll tags. When I'm driving on toll roads I always go to the booth and make them work. And I even make sure I don't have correct change to make things take even longer.

Screw them for giving and easier and more efficient way to pay a toll.

I prefer the self checkout myself. I'd rather do it myself

I believe that you should get a 5% discount or earn points for using self checkout at stores.

Self checkout = self discount

I only use self-checkout.

Years ago I quit going to gas stations that didn’t have ‘pay at the pump’.

Pretty soon I’m gonna quit going to groceries that don’t let me self-checkout.

It’s SO MUCH faster and easier.

How exactly is self-checkout faster when you have a large buggy full of items? There's not belt to put them on, there's little room to bag as you go, and then you have to find room in the still full buggy when you're done bagging a bag.

For a few items, sure it can be a lot quicker. But I'm not doing self checkout when I have $150-$200 worth of groceries.

It would be pretty sweet to get a little discount.

Us self checkout folks thank you for this. It should only be used for a few, easily scannable items. Not a basket full.

I can't stand seeing someone at the self checkout with a full buggy

I live alone and I’ve never spent $150-200 on groceries at one time in
my entire life.

Maybe you should stay in the cashier lane?
