The crime might be slightly less bad overall, but it's much less segregated than here.

They buy into the whole yt owes me something narrative a lot more than here, and will go into nicer areas in numbers to mug and rob, and it's more blatantly about race than it is targeting someone with money in their wallet.

Had a friend's sister get mugged and die after leaving a debutante party with friends. And that was years before the current levels of political and race animosity.

Certainly I'm sad to hear about your friend's sister. And nobody here is comparing Savannah to Mayberry. But I'm sure a brief look at crime stats online will show an objective picture of crime differences between the two cities.

Never been to Savannah, but if I got a job offer there, there would be tire tracks on my street I'd be out of Louisiana so fast.

Savannah is underwhelming. I always heard it was like a smaller, very charming NOLA type place. Doesn't compare at all. Some beautiful architecture, but NOLA is in a league of its own. It also had much more cultcha than I expected.

The parks incorporated into the denser old areas of town are nice. Gives it a very french quarter w/ trees vibe, without the bourbon street crowd.

But that doesn't overcome the negatives imo.

Love Savannah. Son lived there for a while and we visited lots.

Downtown is a mini New Orleans (history wise and buildings...NOT culture)

20 Minutes from the beach (although the beach sucks...it's still the ocean)

Go right now and take me with you.

Sure. But the "let them shoot each other" mantra and live-and-let-die mentality don't apply as much over there.

The crime rate can be high and not affect you that much, or be lower but more of a personal risk to you.

Yeah some of those streets definitely looked beautiful with the tree canopy

Tropical weather definitely better in Savannah. Shape of coast typically means hurricanes are skipping off Florida and hitting the Carolinas. Usually just get grazed on the Georgia coast (relatively- it’s on the coast in the south so you should always be prepared for a scary ocean storm). But it doesn’t take direct hits with near the frequency that LA does.
