Sometimes it's better t know someone than have a decent degree

When you tell people you received a liberal arts degree they all think you studied gender studies or some other nonsense. A lot of people go to college, but few seem to get a education.
The core of a classic liberal arts education is grammar logic and rhetoric, with the secondary subjects being astronomy, math, geometry, and fine arts. This dates back to the Greeks.
A modern liberal arts education will usually encompass English lit, foreign language, fine arts, math, natural sciences, humanities, philosophy, history, humanities/sociology, and religion along with your core major classes.

Personal connections are more important. Most liberal arts degrees aren't particularly valuable at this point though. Obviously there are some exceptions.

It’s a small private college, that’s the crowd those colleges attract.
Small liberal arts schools, yep. Some of the most insulated people you'll ever meet,

It all depends on where you get it

Heavily dependent on what industry you get into.

Most are just jumping off points for grad school.

Considering a degree in physics, math, chemistry or biology can be a liberal arts degree it just comes down to the major within the liberal arts education. Most people have no idea what a liberal arts degree or a liberal arts college is.

This is true and I alluded to it earlier, close to 40% of my graduating class at Wofford went on to either med or law school.

Check out Sewanee if he's interested in a private southern college.
Need to get them back in the SEC.
Give Bama the death penalty to make room.

I’m going to give you some real, inside knowledge of Millsaps.
Millsaps is pretty rigorous academically. They have some partnerships with Ivy League schools. For example, you can get an Engineering degree from Millsaps, but you spend your last year at Columbia or Cornell.
Athletes who are just “wanting to play” have a hard time making it there. Their athletics are well funded, they are a Nike school, but a lot of the athletes can’t hack it academically and transfer out.
They attract some weird kids, who stand out because it’s a small college. But the soccer players are hanging out on sorority row, not with the Theatre and Gender studies crowd. That crowd is vocal, but they are a distinct minority.
Same deal with the faculty, the business school is really conservative. Their MBA is well respected nationally. You’ll have some liberal professors but you are going to get that anywhere. When I was at LSU, I had a guy who wrote a bunch of books on white privilege.
Jackson sucks but Millsaps isn’t in the worst area. It borders the medical corridor and Fondren on one side and the government center on another. To the south is shady. But to the north is rich old money.
My advice is that if he wants to play soccer and isn’t cut academically, look elsewhere. All of the SAA schools are basically the same. The next step down in D3 schools are the ASCand USA South schools. But Millsaps is a fine school and the Chi Os are as hot as they are anywhere. I married one.

Expect to pay about $18k/ yr. assuming your kid has a 3.8+ and at least a 30 on the ACT.

Son went there. SJW brain-washing institution of the highest order. Got a degree but it was too small for the real college experience. Soccer ain’t that important. If your kid was Pele he wouldn’t be going to Milsap. Avoid it if you can.

Crap like this is such Bs. Respect is when you go to interview somewhere like Seattle or San Fran or anywhere outside of the south and they have actually heard of your school.
There’s tons of places to get a great education and to get you into any Ivy League or similar graduate school, you can do that at any SEC school very easily with great grades and test scores.
If your son really wants to play Soccer further OP then he should pursue that option by all means. But I’d tell him to consider going to a town or area he would also enjoy. Tons of opportunities out there to just play. Get good grades, play a sport, and good scores opens a lot of doors.

From Jackson, Millsaps is known for two things, high tuition and ugly women.

is Milsaps paying people to come here any type stuff like this? It's not a particularly selective school. I'm not trying to hate but it's just not.
