My father has his uncles fighter jacket from
1950?? I think. Not sure what boat he was on. I know he was in the culinary service and a high ranking official gave him this jacket has a gift.
Don’t think it’s ever been worn and it’s not in that bad of shape for being as old as it is.

Haven’t a clue but that is a cool jacket.

that wasn't a jacket for a pilot or air crew. That was a jacket for Culinary Specialist petty officer first class.. I'm fairly certain.
Pilots and Air crew had/have different wings.

Looks to be a G-1 jacket. Very nice condition. Never seen one with "CS Wings".

Refer to them as ships, not boats.

Cut me some slack, haven’t had any coffee this morning.
My father was young when his uncle gave him the jacket, so I’m sure he got the story wrong.
I think he also got a watch when he retired from the navy and it’s at my dads house somewhere. I need to find it.

Every naval aviator calls it “the boat”.

Yes.
They're leather jackets that were worn by Navy fighter pilots to keep them warm. But that's not important.

that's a cool jacket, I'd wear it. Folks would assume you're carrying a switchblade

That's a cool find. No doubt a very nice, well-made jacket. I'd wear it.

I love the authentic “bomber” jackets. I don’t know how I feel about wearing it. Seems close to stolen valor. Like wearing a letterman jacket that you didn’t earn.

Definitely a G-1. Might not be Navy issue though. I've never seen a Navy G-1 without a tag. You said a high ranking official gave it to him. Might have not been a Navy officer, maybe a Congressman or Senator.

Could be, I’ll probably never know the true details since my father can’t really remember the story his mom told him about his uncle.

It looks to be legit. It should have a white tag in it with the contract number. It does have the USN punched in the wind flap. These are made of goat hide. You can google a ton of info on military jackets. Probably around $300 give or take on Ebay.
