I remember they made a public statement after the retired founder of Rouse's was photographed at the 1/6 Trump rally and they returned a $20k donation from Rouse's.

IIRC JD’s version of events was that the landlord or whatever just came in and seized all their shite and kicked them out with no notice and for no reason. There is 0.0% chance that is how it went down, but JD won’t tell the full story.
He wants people to believe his nonprofit bought or received as donations all that equipment, signed a lease and adhered to the terms and conditions of said lease and then randomly the Landlord woke up one day and stole all his shite? And his response was a couple of posts on social media followed by him leaving town?

Not related but I’m tired of people acting like gaming is a legit hobby or something that should be in schools/gov programs

I think the space was donated and the school/gov't building decided to use it for something else. The fact that so little info was provided made seem like he messed up somewhere in the process.
I liked him when he was covering the city counsel and city gov't. Now he just looks for stuff he can make a snarky post about something being racist.
