It's been about 15yrs since I've installed any kind of stereo. These aftermarket car stereo decks are cheap now on ebay.

Not needing anything too fancy.

Think they're called head units now. Unless you have some sort of idea of what you're doing, I'd probably pay to have it done.

I had a flip out DVD put in a long time ago and now it doesn't flip out unless I force it. Plus it would eat a lot of dvd/cd's, but I really only listen to radio now.

I give myself a 2/10 on the handyness scale, and I recently installed a nice Kenwood in my wife's Jeep. I have to say that using Crutchfield was worth every penny due to the recommended harnesses, adapters and instructions. It sounds really great in that older Jeep, and has bluetooth. If I can do it, anyone can.

Cads going to tell you that your stock radio is poo, and whatever he current he has or can find (not on amazon) is better than the poo in your dashboard.

A friend recently gave us a 10" subwoofer and amp. I could have installed it myself but decided to pay a local car audio place because it was only $130 to install.

Factory head units can be difficult to tie into and you'll probably also need some special tools to open the dash

I have a Subaru Outback, so its not some high end vehicle, but it is the 2016 fully loaded version so I've got a nice Harmon/Kardon system in there and I love my dash. Bluetooth is fantastic, interface with Sirius, etc. is great.

My point was, not just nice cars have really nice features these days. shite, my wife's Mazda has a Bose system and a great bluetooth system and dash interface.

Ah, you want aftermarket slap. That's a different story. I've got plenty of bass for my Grateful Dead and blues

Get it from Crutchfield.

They'll include the harness and mounting kit, along with easy instructions for your specific car that show you where all the hidd3n screws and clips are. Its a piece of cake.

Give this website a try. They have very good prices and very detailed instructions and provide all the plug and play harness's you will need for your specific vehicle.

Holy shite! With all of the online videos and especially directly from the manufacturers and retailers, if you can't do it yourself, you are retarded. You don't even have to know which wires go where anymore. You buy a harness with a big plug that connects the wires for you.

Now, if you are looking to customize the entire system, then you might need to read up a little, but just switching out a head unit?

completely untrue. Many new vehicles deliberately frick with the OEM radios making it damn near impossible to swap the head units.

Think wired-in Gps, noon standard speaker amps, rear camera and steering wheel controls and you'll see replacing the head unit starts you down an expensive and complicated rabbit hole

Usually have a wiring harness for your particular vehicle. Need a power wire and and antenna wire. You should be good. They are relatively easy to change out

Well, yeh, you have to realize that the unit you're putting in has to have those capabilities in order to keep them. Kinda like putting on new wheels. If you have 5 lug wheels, replacing them with 6 lugs ones will require more "work".

I call bullshite on that. Maybe more complicated, but impossible is not correct.
