My friend is the internet sales manager for a dealership in houston. He's in his mid 20s and makes over 200k a year. But he works six days a week 7-8 to 9 at night. frick that.

You have to be willing to screw people over with a straight face. Most dealerships work on a commission structure that compounds as you meet quota.

Example: you make $100 a car regardless of profit margin. Once you hit 15 cars, that $1500 becomes $3000. If you hit 30 cars before end of month, that $3000 becomes $6000 a month. (72k a year to sell one car a day).

You have to be willing to work a lot of hours and deal with a-hole sales managers.

The best part about the potential gig would be I am good friends with the sales manager, he is good as hell at his job, and he’s super cool. Still scares me tho.

Having your buddy as your boss might not be such a good thing.

there's a dude at the local dealership that clears 300k.

Then why is he wearing slacks 3 sizes too big and a sweat stained short sleeve button up shirt?

Sounds like a good way for him not to be your buddy in about 6 months.

I know people who have sold cars. Its a great way to make good money in short order. If you can stomach it (hours, sleaze), you can make 6 figures within a year.

Yes, hi, hello, used car salesman checking in from Montana.

I’m 24, no college degree and I make $80k. It’s a lot of work, but I love cars and people entertain me so it’s a good place for me to be. I hope to be running the joint someday.

There will be days where you can’t miss and there will be a lot of days where you can’t seem to do any fricking thing right. Finding a happy median between the two is a huuuuuge part of the job, mentally.

You have to enjoy it in some way. It’s so stressful that it’ll eat you alive otherwise.

What do you consider screwing someone over? Making a good profit?

Selling one vehicle to a one time customer for X and exact same one to the next one time person for X+Y for starters.

By your logic if you pay more than another person you got ripped off? That is your fault not the salesman's.

That's where being able to be a slimeball comes into play. I couldn't do that. I'd have a price for one time customers, a price for 2nd buy customers, and a price for 3+ repeats.

Did anyone hold a gun to either person and make them buy the car. I hate the haggle process as much as anyone, but what you have described is just business, a product is worth what someone is willing to pay for, and each car sale is a independent transaction.

So you're in favor of no price contols at all? Predatory pricing is fine as well, correct? I mean if someone else pays more thats their fault.

No. It's taking advantage of people being stupid, and its slimy. I have not met a car salesman yet who is not a greasy bastard and I'm related to 3. The people I know who are good salesmen are selling things other than cars.

I am thinking of selling my house if I get multiple offers am I being slimy for accepting the higher offer, or not accepting any of the offers because I think I can get more money for it later? It is not my job or the car salesman to determine if the buyer is making a educated purchase, they walked in of their own free will and could leave if they don't like the price.

And everyone of them is working to make deals that will make the most money for them and their company.
