I don't do them, but creating one takes skilled work and artistic talent. I would not call it weird.

Really neat.

Too bad my kid would destroy them in less than 10 seconds.

Always thought this was a neat hobby. I don't have the steady hands or patience to pick up a hobby like this.

I won't call it weird, but the fact that something might require "skilled work and artistic talent" does not necessarily mean it can't be weird. Plenty of weird shite does.

Scale modeling is my hobby, and it gets expensive and time consuming. For the guys who do dioramas (military or otherwise) it is exponentially so.
Modeling is also something no one is good at right off the bat. It takes a lot of trial and error to get to the level of proficiency shown in your examples. That said, I find it to be a very soothing pastime after a hectic day or week. Start with some 1/72 scale fighters or 1/35 tanks. If you dig that, then you might like dioramas.

Youtuber PLASMO has some cool ones, and if you like railroad type Luke Towan has some great ones on youtube.

Get yourself an airbrush set up.

And look up painting vids for materials and terrain.

Cool deal. People don’t get into real hobbies anymore. You should go for it

Lot of people keep it on the down low.

I paint gaming figs for RPGs and toss em to the kiddos for toy soldiers when they aren't being used.

Not my own, but Bones are fun and cheap to paint.

Kids have a Le Toy Van Castle

With a bunch of knights and peasants I've painted.

Just need to find a good Bruce Campbell to lead them.

Used to make model planes and such as a kid. Have always wanted to get back into it. It does look very relaxing
