As others have said it’s not bad for a small city but the people are very insular. Plenty of old money that stays there. Incredible athletics in the area too, both football and baseball.

I would think crime is pretty minimal compared to BR or a major city but I’ve never lived there. In general folks from East Texas are very friendly and pleasant to deal with

Lived in Longview and moved back to BR. The town has grown a good bit since I lived there. I'd recommend finding a place to live near the Boorman Trail.

I’m in Tyler often for hospital work. I like the area, but I appreciate small to medium size cities over concrete sprawl like DFW. For me…there’s no way in hell that I would choose to live in Dallas area if I didn’t have to.

I live in North Bossier/Benton area, which I happen to like. Tyler is a smaller, nicer Shreveport with slightly more amenities & it’s only 1.5 hours from Dallas with anything that you’d want. I approve…if you can deal with the congested traffic loop, but coming from BR, this would prob be a huge improvement.

The traffic isn’t that bad on the loop, it gets a little hectic on highway 69 on S. Broadway by the mall area, but that’s usually the typical 5pm traffic.

It’s nothing compared to BR imo

My house doubled in tax value since we built in 2014. But I turned 65 and locked the tax rate. But they did pound me every year in tax increases for a while.

The loop is 8, sometimes 10 lanes wide

That's hard to comprehend for a town that size.

Boorman Trail area still has some nice places and a couple of newer subdivisions but the new stuff seems to have really small lots, small yards, very limited backyard access
The massive growth over the 5 years that we have been here has been out Hwy 2879, 2208, the Noonday Road area and Hwy 450 north of Hallsville.
We got out riding and checking things out last week and there are at least 6 new Subdivisions being built, some already have streets and utilities and a couple that are gonna be just simply stunning with large hardwood trees and rolling hills. We will be watching those developments with interest in the prices of the lots. All but 1 of the developments are in the Hallsville school district.

No state income tax but property taxes make up for it.

I've spent some time in the area and would move there if I could uproot the whole fam damily. They are going NOWHERE.

I’ve lived in Tyler going on 26 years. Great mid-size city, good schools, lakes, golf. Pretty good LSU alumni group here.

It’s only 40 mins from Gilmer which is sneakily the best small town in Texas. Also Smoking J’s has the best BBQ. I have a house for sale there if you are interested.
