He was the dairy farmer from Gillsburg MS, whose farm Artemis Pyle ran to when Lynyrd Skynyrd's plane crashed.

No, but I hear the Korean Chicken Farmer is an a-hole...Won't let anyone on his land to see the crash site.

This is correct. I've never been to the site and was wondering if johnnie ever takes a few people from time to time.

I don't blame the guy. What are y'all expecting to see besides grass? I doubt there is any smoldering wreckage just laying around out there.

Understood- and you are right- it's just a bucket list item.

Why did some dairy farmer in Mississippi have the band's dinnerware?

Maybe it was a dental plate...

I love LS, grew up with the music from older siblings so I would never drive on them about anything AND I was young and invincible once, too, but...
1) Aerosmith turned down the same plane a week or so earlier for safety reasons...and the pilots were drunk
2) On the flight to SC, flames were seen coming out of one of the engines. The company that owned the plane refused to let SC mechanics service it, made a deal to have their own mechs MEET THE PLANE IN BTR AND FIX IT THERE. (I mean, WTF?)
3) The Pilots knew the fuel gauge was busted and had to check the tank WITH A STICK...which they FORGOT TO DO before departing for BTR.
4) Dumbass pilot lowered the landing gear while struggling with alt. to make the field beyond the woods. Lost what altitude it had due to drag, and the gear clipped the trees.
4) Cassie Gains wanted to ride in equipment truck to BTR, was afraid of the POS plane.

They actually had a 25 year reunion at the site. That weekend hurricane Lily hit and it was an awful mess. Artimus Pyle band performed on a flatbed truck because Travis Tritt would not allow him on the "professional stage". The L.S band, with Johnie VanZant was to play believe it or not, but the widow VanZant threw a fit and sabotaged the deal, so they backed out. This was the only "public" access to the site ever. I've heard accounts of Johnnie Mote bringing/allowing access over the years. This October 20th marks the 40th anniversary of the crash. I'd like to see it. There is one Tree remaining today that marks the spot it crashed with carving of initials and what not from 40 years of visitation.
