Yeah, my doctors estimate I've probably had it for somewhere between 5-10 years in what's called a "compensated" state with no symptoms. Something, don't know what exactly, woke it up over the summer and now I'm "decompensated." I have faith things will work out. I'm doing everything they've told me to do regarding diet and what not. I'm just looking forward to feeling better so I'm not struggling through my workday anymore.

I've been thinking about having my last drink on Thursday egg bowl night. shite is bad for you. One of the primary reasons I need to quit is it triggers a smoking habit. If i don't drink I don't smoke. The shite is bad for you.

Kind of. Ask your doctor about naltrexone. It helped out a lot

I was googling things like "sobriety", "detox", etc.. and eventually I ended up going down a reddit hole about Naltrexone. There's this documentary called "One Little Pill" about this actress that had failed over and over in AA. She eventually discovered the big business of rehab and treatment and how it is basically a never ending money pit.

It goes on to discuss a method of eventual abstinence called The Sinclair Method using Naltrexone and taking it an hour before drinking. It's an opiate blocker that basically just curbs the desire to drink though it can take a while to kick in.

Anyway - I found it really interesting but didn't know if it worked or was just some bullshite. Any of you dudes ever hear of this? Anyone ever tried it with any success?

I quit drinking Thanksgiving 2010. In 2009 I had cardiac arrest, hemorrhagic stroke and ruptured kidneys so even a half a pint would make me feel like shite. Now just some weed.

I take Naltrexone and I've stayed sober longer than I ever have in the past. 12 step programs and numerous inpatient rehabs anywhere from 30 days to a year in length never lasted me longer than a few weeks. I was at the end of my rope. I think that a combination of desperation and Naltrexone helped me more than anything. Of course everyone is different but that is my experience. Different things work for different people.

I'm getting there. Can't binge drink on the weekend like I used to because I don't recover till Wednesday.

Once in the past I started on Friday night drinking bourbon and didn’t stop until midnight Sunday night. Didn’t eat all weekend. Didn’t sleep a single hour. Actually drove Sunday afternoon to play golf (best I’ve ever played that day) I think I drank over 3 liters all weekend. Lots of Coke was involved in this adventure.

Never again. Hell I think I’d die if i tried it now
