My buddy was contacted by a 30ish yr old girl claiming he is her dad. The mom lied to the girl for 30yrs on who was the real dad.

No way I'm ever doing any of these Ancestry DNA tests.

This is but one of the reasons I won't be doing mail-in DNA tests.

My wife found her birth parents through one of the DNA services. Her birth dad has been great with our kids and truly treats her like a daughter even though he didn't meet her until she was in her 30's. Her birth mother doesn't want anything to do with her, at least she didn't abort her. It was a fling between two professionals, so that was a relief for me at least.

Has he had a (step)father in his life the entire time or just the sister?

Saddam Hussein died 16 years ago. Was he the real father?

A better thread would be how many posters were pinned for a 1970s rape by 23andMe?

From what I understand, it dont matter if you dont take the test yourself. Even if a sibling or close family member of yours takes it, it would allow someone to track you down.

What’s worse is that your sister, cousin, or uncle could submit one and someone could still be in a mess without even submitting one of his own.

Nvm. Beat me to it.

My sister and I have had arguments over this. She wants to do it, but I told her that if I get popped for being a serial killer* because she "just had to know" I would never forgive her.

*Allegedly, of course

My wife was adopted. At 50 years she decided to do ancestry just to find out her heritage. The results were shocking. She was 99% Eastern European (Hungary and Lithuania). We honestly didn't know there was a DNA relatives page.

She matched to a first cousin. The Mother's niece. The mother only had one sibling. The gig was sorta up at that point. The mother was pissed... I don't blame her.

Turns out my wife has a full sister. (mother and father married and had another child). My wife and her sister are very close. That part was beautiful. It did wreck the Bio moms life though. We are sorry for that but give her space. The bio mom has warmed up to my wife and kids but not me. (Shocker)

I won't do one. I don't think it would reveal anything negative but I'm not 100% on that. Some things are best just to leave unknown.

It's fascinating to me how people will give web sites their most personal info

I don't even like giving out my zip code

I'm amazed by how many people willingly submit to these dna tests. Not a chance I'll ever do that

Some people just blindly do what they're told with no second thought

Yep

let me submit my DNA to a database, install a ring camera and Alexa monitoring device in my home, and then rail about the “deep state” LOL

the current nanny state is completely voluntary

This is absolutely correct.

My older sister took one and through that we learned that my older brother has a daughter and grandkids living in Florida.

It was a girl he “briefly dated” in high school that moved away. She never told her parents who the dad was and just quietly raised her daughter.

They have all met each other now.
