Aren't you a student-athlete and getting a meteorology degree? You can do way better than SF. Leverage your alumni connections. Or, go to grad school in stats/analytics/business intelligence and get a job in 12-24 months near 100k with another big pay raise in 2-3 years.

this isnt a career move or anything its just temporary to earn somehting till i finish my grad degree
ETA: only way thisll turn into a career thing is if i get there and i start seeing potential to really move up.

Ah. In that case absolutely not. To make working for someone like SF worth your while you need to be busting your arse way more than the typical 9-5. Focus on kicking arse in school and making as many connections industry and academia as you can until you get that diploma. That is your job, and it will pay off way more in the long run.

I worked as an acct manager for two diff agents before opening my own independent agency.
First one began at $30k plus commission. I was setting agency records for sales, but as a guy posted earlier, big push on banking and financial products, as well as life. Banking was easy. One month, due to us not hitting our life sales, he took away commission. I decided then and there to transfer out.
I ended up at another agency (top 50 out of 18k agents). She was awful, both personally and professionally. I grinned and beared it and went through all sorts of political bs both within the agency and via State Farm. The writing is on the wall within the company and I jumped ship two years ago.
For what you're looking for, I'd do it. Easy gig if the agent is cool. Gets you in front of people and you can groove your sales.

Would you be concerned as a customer of SF? Does it depend on the agent?
Posted on 7/27/17 at 9:50 pm to BamaCoaster
the agent seems like a really good person. we had a really good conversation over the phone. is that 30k mark typical or is usually more/less? making the sales is honestly the least of my worries. i know i can hit it and be good at it. i just wanna be sure im happy with who im working for and what im getting for it. if its 30k plus comission thatll be good for me for now while im starting off and getting my life together.
eta: were the out of office demands fairly high or did work mainly stay in the 9-5 window?

If you don't mind me asking, what are you getting your masters in? And is there any way this job can possibly tie into that?

what was the salery like?

Almost as bad as car salesmen.

Isn't Allstate similar as far as salary is concerned?

Surely an insurance company would offer insurance to their employees?

This. Did it my first job out of college and all my clients had to be from cold calls. No walk ins. shite sucked. Maybe your agent will be more generous.

I deal a good bit with State Farm and if you're in Louisiana, you might want to work for another insurance company. State Farm is about to really screw themselves bigly in the homeowners side of things. A lot of disgruntled policy holders that have been with them for the past 20-25 years are getting denied for obvious insurable damage. You will have an uphill battle if you work for them.
