I've never had an experience that "grave" before... but it's definitely happened. Once I realize it's happening the only bad thing is when you have to get up to get ready for something (i.e. work, a flight, etc)
But to answer your question... I don't really think that other people get them often and I only bring it up as a "this one time" kind of thing and sometimes people reciprocate with their stories... But it doesn't happen often.
Either way, I still remember that first occurrence VERY vividly.

Fortunately hasn't happened to me in the last year or so, but that is some spooky shite. Really freaked me out the first time it happened.

Although Fuseli labeled his painting quite unambiguously as a portrayal of a nightmare it clearly contains significant elements of Sleep paralysis or "Old Hag" experiences. As a consequence it has virtually become an icon for the phenomenon.
Nice post. Thanks for the details re the painting.

The only thing that makes this recurring thing better is knowing you frickers also get it I feel like none of my IRL friends know what I'm talking about. Do yall and yalls friends talk about it? Or is it rare in your circles too.

I have diabetes and the first time it happened I thought my blood sugar was so low I was in coma. Scared the living shite out me now I'am used to it and it happens to me like once every 3 months.

Wow... spooky stuff.
It's happened to me a long time ago but minus the shadowy figures. It was more like the fear that somebody broke in but when I woke up I knew it was just a dream (unlike the clearing the room with my glock post).

Happened to me last night for the first time at 27 yrs old. I took a nap after I got home from the parade. Woke up at 10:30 or so and watched the end of the baseball game. Stayed awake a while then went to bed at 4 am. This is when my sleep paralysis happened. It actually occurred twice. After reading more about it I assume it was at the beginning and the end of my "sleep". I had 3 or 4 weird arse dreams as well. I felt like there were other people in the bed with me making noises. I felt pressure on my entire body. I saw a black demon figure very close to me. Scary arse shite. I googled it when I woke up. Even checked my body for marks. I don't watch/like scary movies but I watched one a couple months ago about a doll and it scared the shite out of me. If I ever experience it again it will be too soon.

A little after the new year I had a sleep paralysis episode. It's the only one that I remember ever having. I wasn't getting much sleep, and I was generally exhausted, so I think that caused it.
I was taking a heavy nap after getting off work in the early evening. When waking up I was extremely disoriented and wasn't even sure exactly where I was. For some reason I had the vague impression I was in my parent's house where I grew up. I was sleeping on my side and the curtains on the window behind me gave me the impression of a tall figure standing over my shoulder. I was pretty freaked out, and I tried calling out for help. I'm not sure if anything came out or if even just a hoarse whisper escaped my throat. Then I felt blood rush to my head, I could move again, and I realized fairly quickly what was going on. It was a pretty freaky experience.

I've had sleep paralysis quite a bit, sometimes with the shadowy figure, sometimes not. Used the get the dreams as a kid where I would have dreams within dreams. I would dream that I was dreaming that I couldn't move. Then once I did move, I was still dreaming and also couldn't move, some inception type shite.

Got me last summer for the first time. I still say was an entity. Before I even experienced it the room felt creepy. And I've lived by myself before for a decade, so I usually don't get spooked.

Happened to me once.. luckily I had heard of it happening to others so I wasn't panicked. However, I was scared to some degree from laying there powerless to move. It was sort of a weird feeling being like "oh God" and "oh, so that's what this is like" at the same time.

I've had this occasionally since my early 20's. It used to really freak me out before I learned what it was. The first time I had it I was sure I felt a shadowy figure standing over me and then actually felt it sit on the bed (so I thought). I was horrified and couldn't move a muscle. Now at least I know what it is so I keep telling myself to just relax. But it still always strain with all my strength until I eventually come out of it. I've heard some people can "control" it and have something like an out of body experience. Not sure if thats true or not though...
