[quote]Is it like crossing the streams where it might undo all of creation, but it might also send an interdimensional demon back to whence it came or is more like mixing bleach and ammonia where you're definitely going to be playing chemical warfare?
The chemical warfare thingy.

quote:to people downvoting this... isn’t drinking the main cause of gout? Every case I’ve seen was because of overindulgence in alcohol/red meat by the individual.
Don't drink...

My MIL gets gout on the reg. She takes pills to keep her uric acid levels low to not kick off a bout of the gout.

See a doctor — they’ll likely give you allopurinol. I’ve been told by others that tart cherry juice helps. Idk.

Doctor to get a steroid shot and prednisone for about 5 days. Then get your doctor to put you on Allopurinol.

I couldn’t imagine being so unhealthy, and giving up on my own self-image to the point I get gout.
I mean, how pathetically fat and lazy can someone be?

You don't. It's arthritis. It'll probably happen again. Had 2 bouts. Certain foods exacerbate it.
I quit drinking beer. No more be turkey. Take a lot of tart cherry extract pills. Apple cider vinegar if you have to.
Seems to work. Other than that lose weight. Exercise more.

A guy I work with is about 5'7" 140 lbs and gets it all the time. It doesn't just happen to fat people.

Drinking alcohol can help to cause a flare up. But so do purine rich foods which include healthy foods, just not food for gout sufferers.
Gout is also known as a "Rich Mans Disease".
quote:
It is recommended that people diagnosed with gout follow a diet that does not include the following purine-rich foods:
Seafood: Although it is recommended that a healthy diet includes a lot of fish, people who have gout should be aware that some seafood can increase levels of uric acid in the blood, and may make gout worse.
High purine content: Anchovies, codfish, haddock, herring, mackerel, mussels, sardines, scallops, trout
Medium purine content: Crab, lobster, oysters, shrimp.
Meat: Though no longer part of a common diet in the United States, organ meats, such as liver, sweetbreads, and brains, are most dangerous for those with gout.
High purine content: Bacon, turkey, veal, venison
Medium purine content: Beef, chicken, duck, ham, pork
Vegetables: Studies do not show an association between high-purine vegetables and gout to the same degree as with animal-based purines, suggesting other factors than purine content also play a role. However, there are some beans that are particularly high in purines, so people with severe gout may want to avoid them.
Purine-rich vegetables: Asparagus, dried beans (especially fava and garbanzo), mushrooms, peas, spinach
