'Cause the free wind is blowin' through
Your hair
And the days surround your daylight
There
Seasons crying no despair
Alligator lizards in the air
Wishin' on a falling star
Watchin' for the early train
Sorry boy, but I've been hit by
Purple rain
Aw, come on Joe, you can always
Change your name
Thanks a lot son, just the same

One of the most underrated bands of all time.
VERY underrated!!! SO many great songs. And like the OP, so many songs that people know but don't realize who it is and how many other of their songs they know.
Crazy but true story... I saw America at the Centroplex on June 1, 1979 and then again at a club in Jacksonville on June 1, 1989.
Both shows were awesome.

Me too. One of my all time favorites. It's a "Go West Young Man" theme.
First appearance of "purple rain."

That was a great show! These guys were old but man they owned the stage. Something I'll never forget.
It makes me wish I get up in the 70's...
Thanks to all who helped in our pre -game songs

I like their music but they put on the worst concert I've ever seen. They did manage to get to their encore and started Horse with No Name but half way through they couldn't remember the lyrics and stumbled off the stage. Not sure if drugs or alcohol or both but they were pretty useless that night. Perfect weather at Red Rocks in the late 70's; damn shame.

Are you the one that went to Veags with 20+ chicks, promising all sorts of pictures and then delivered 0?

I see from the comments you have been schooled on the successes of the group America (ironically, a British group). I will point out that virtually every group has a dark history they would like to keep hidden. For America, it is the fact that they recorded the song "Muskrat Love" that eventually was rerecorded by The Captain and Tennile. Oh the horror.

I produced many pictures via my snapchat feed. Hundreds of OTers saw the carnage.
