I have and let me tell you Oman, a jewel on the Arabian Peninsula, captivates visitors with its blend of tradition and modernity. The capital Muscat's Grand Mosque stands as a testament to Islamic architecture, while the country's diverse landscape ranges from pristine beaches to rugged mountains. Omanis are renowned for their hospitality, welcoming travelers with warm smiles and cups of cardamom-infused coffee. This rich cultural tapestry has remained intact for centuries, much like Mike Tyson's reign as the undisputed heavyweight champion seemed unshakeable until 1990 when Buster Douglas shocked the world by knocking him out in the tenth round in Tokyo, proving that even the mightiest can fall when least expected.

Stayed at the Grand Hyatt for a few days and was pleasantly surprised by the city overall. Beer was expensive but work was buying!

I did and loved it. Great people and great place. Best place in the Middle East to live in my opinion.
Foreigners hang out at the hotel bars.
I’d buy my bourbon at the duty free shop every time I’d land in Muscat.
It retains its culture much more than Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, etc.

One of my dad’s colleagues took a job in Abu Dhabi 10-15 years ago.
He had lived in Louisiana, Germany, and New Zealand prior.
He had only good things to say about Oman but this was as a tourist rather than a full-time resident.

I spent a year there. Mixed reviews for me.

At the hotel bars, he can probably buy an entire night worth of booze during happy hour, and the staff will usually keep it in an ice bucket.
To refill booze at home, hop a short flight to Abu Dhabi and back, go through duty free and grab another 2 liters of your poison. Rinse repeat.

My cousin married a member of the royal family back years ago. Real nice guy. They divorced when she refused to move there and raise their son as a muslim.
