Anyone ever successfully track down debit card thief?

Card numbers were compromised and $600 worth of perfume was ordered online. Called the company to find out where it was being shipped to but they said they can't give that info out.
I hate a thief.

Love that they are concerned with protecting the privacy of the thief.

Yes, I went full OT sleuth and got these two morons arrested after they used my debit card that was skimmed to purchase a money order at a post office.

ETA: All I needed was a police report # to get my money back, but in my research I found the exact post office they went to. I was "a man"

I would do all the work for the cops if the perfume company would tell me what address the package was being shipped to. I'd find out who live there, get their phone number, call them from the "customer service department" to discuss their order and I'd record it.

I want to file a police report but I don't know if it needs to be where I live, where my credit union is based out of, where the perfume company is or the mysterious thief's residence.

As much of it that happens, i can’t imagine it’s very hard.
It’s definitely not just one group of people pulling it all off.
I would imagine it’s easy enough that a shite ton of people do it and that’s why it happens so often

It’s very aggravating. Someone stole my husband’s debit card number and the thief subscribed to an online gaming thing.
They were no help and neither was Capital one. I called the bank jerk over the phone a fricking moron, and they closed all my accounts.

The police can get the information from the company

There was a thread on here a while back where the poster tracked the thief to some apartments on Monterrey Blvd.

No but it hasn’t happened to me yet, probably helps my cards getting old and all the numbers wore off the back, so fast food employees can’t take a pic of it & I don’t shop online.

Not a card but the OT did get a trailer back
That reminds me, what ever happened there?

That’s fricking ridiculous. You can’t tell me where the good I purchased were sent?

I have been the victim of credit card fraud and forged and altered check fraud. The banks don’t seem to care and make no effort to catch the people. As long as it doesn’t come out of my pocket.

Years ago my law partner made this his personal mission…. A covenant with God was made that day. He found out what clerks were working when transactions were made… interviewed them….He acquired store surveillance video footage of thief getting in a vehicle with U-Haul trailer…. He went to every U-Haul vendor for 50 miles with that video until he found one that also rented storage rooms and said he recognized the thief as a customer…. Contacted the police detectives…. Had them arrested and stayed involved in the prosecution… and eventually was in the courtroom staring the thief down when they were sentenced to jail time.
Was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.

They won't give u the name. frick a bank. Don't use debit cards except for using an ATM. Credit cards are much safer.

quote:file it where you live. They will handle it cross territory. This happened to me, and the local guys handled it for us. They charged $500 worth of gift cards at pep boys in the Dallas area. Pep boys ended up losing the value of the cards once redeemed and the charge was reversed by the bank.
