Guy I know here in North Alabama use to have a multimillion dollar construction business. He specialized in of all things going around and remodeling fast-food joints. Made a killing doing McDonalds. I knew of him because he used Cat equipment to redo the parking lots.
Anyway, he was doing great, had two girls in college, living the American dream. Then one day his wife went to the doctor and found out she had ovarian cancer that had already started to spread to her other organs. Before it was over he had sold off everything to pay medical bills, girls withdrew from college (Alabama and Sanford) and I think ended up going to Gadsden State Community College. In the end he was left widowed, bankrupt, living in a rented doublewide and working as an excavator operator for construction company.
The whole process took like 2-3 years.
ETA: his main hobby before all this happened was he collected and raced antique Porsches. Dude was loaded.

I am 24 years old as well, I make 60k/ year. have a paid off house, 3 kids, and a 2012 gmc sierra and 2015 charger (wifes car). I also have a 1999 Nissan sentra that I drive back and forth to work (120 mile round trip), belt squeals, the paint is peeling, and it has some noises coming from it (almost 300k miles) I drive every single day. I actually love driving it. So am I classified as one of those poors you talk about? I stay humbled because I have seen first hand at what life can do to someone. It only takes one doctors visit to say "you have cancer" or one car wreck for you to never be able to walk again. Kids are a blessing, I love mine to death, but they definitely make things more challenging. Maybe when your kid gets here you will take a different look on life. I know I have. My advice to you is worry about you and your family before worrying about how much money other people make/have.

I know he had Heath insurance. Vutvagain, I don't think you comprehend the actual cost of a massive medical event like cancer or something similar.

No, but when Italian tires go flat they have a distinct sound.

What about people who drive nice cars that they cannot afford?
People have priorities and if someone who cannot afford is driving a bad cae. He/She has her priorities right.
Some people just don't like wasting money on cars. Cars are just a means to get you from place A to B. I'm not going to live in it

To me, the fact that you are so "disgusted" by poor people, means you are probably barely middle class.
Congrats on achieving mediocrity!

True. Most people who drone on about poor or blue collar people are very insecure. Its a coping mechanism.

Dude do you live in a Double Wide that cost you 65k?
Three kids on 60k a year?
Baw that's an AGI of around ~45k
5 mouths to feed on 3750 a month definitely makes you poor.

LOL WHAT???
Thats 5 people worth of insurance
Thats 5 people worth of groceries
Thats 5 people worth of any extra curricular.
You essentially take a single lifestyle and damn near multiply it by 5 if the wife isn't working.
I am willing to bet he has zero investment vehicles.
This dude lives in a trailer paid for. Not exactly my style, but hey if he's happy sure go for it.

That would be a family of 4.
It's safe to say people have personal lower set standards than I do and that's okay.
Just don't expect everyone to agree with you that they are not considered poor.

My truck is 14 years old. I know what you mean about the sound. My truck makes a sound that sounds something like "no truck note, no truck note."
Actually, it's a very pleasing sound.

Eh, he didn't say whether he did or did not have a wife working I don't think?
But yea, if he has a house paid off, he very likely lives in a tiny town where you can get some really old house for like $15k or some shite.
There's just no possible way you could save up any substantial amount of money at 24 with 3 kids and 3 cars.
