No reason to get rid of the tax preparer. It's the state that messed up by sending duplicate checks, not him/her.

I don't know if you work offshore or were out of the state or something, but this was all over the news a week or two ago. Along with how to handle it (LDR will take it back, if they can't, they will send a letter to you on what to do next).
You need to find a new tax preparer, by the way (assuming they are based in Louisiana). Again, this is a well known and obvious situation.
