Funny that most people think cooking with regular lard is worse for you than canola, vegetable, sunflower, safflower, etc Would do our population a great value healthwise to switch to using lard again

This. Sugar and vegetable oils caused the obesity problem.

Not sure why people are lamenting the decline of Crisco. Crisco stands for crystalized cottonseed oil. The formula has changed over the years but it's just a blend of vegetable oil.

hydrogenated lard

Aren't all hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils generally considered terrible for you?

Render your own, or find somewhere that sells non-hydrogenated lard. They'll usually market it as no trans fats.

You have a point. We usually only had one overweight kid per class.

Right? Mega Corporations lobbied the government into pushing the narrative that cooking in animal fats are bad for us. Why? because vegetable oils were far cheaper. When you are frying 9,000,000 pounds of fries per day like MCD, it adds up quick.

Hydrogenated anything is bad for you. They hydrogenate it to extend the shelf life, which causes it to raise bad cholesterol and lower good cholesterol levels. Fortunately the local hispanic oriented grocery store sells natural lard in like small enough portions where it won't go rancid before you use it.
