Haha, I call em like I see em. Guy responds to a thread about video games with homo erotic language and blanket assumptions I’m gonna tell him that.
If that makes me a douche to you then so be it. Be the hero he needs

Gaming is huge for athletes and definitely encouraged at colleges.
One reason I was given by a d2 coach is that if the players are gaming in their dorm they aren’t out getting arrested. Makes sense

Throw out the television. Its far worse than video games

I’m sorry you can’t see that a grown man wanting to engage in gossip about other men and their families is questionable. I’m sure your kids will be well rounded and productive adults. Not at all behind the rest of modern society because you banned tools for modern life from them as kids.

I seriously doubt pop culture and video games contribute to this.
Its entertainment. Like everything, screen your kids and limit their time.

I know I use the outdoor games as a way to get a little exercise for myself and my kids have a blast watching their fat old man goofing off with them
This.
Me and my 7 year old son have had an absolute blast since the outside temp has warmed over the past month or so. Me and him will go out back and run routes against an imaginary defense for a couple hours when the other neighborhood kids aren't around. When they are around, we've had some pretty fun and intense wiffle ball and two hand touch football games lately. My son is one of the youngest put of about 6 other neighborhood boys and they are just stronger and faster than him so they humble him sometimes. But occasionally he will beat one of the older boys and the joy that brings him is very apparent. He was reminding me just this morning about a sick catch he made on the 10 year old this past weekend.
Almost brought a tear of joy to my eye.

When I grew up it was simple from my parents. You can’t do anything until you finish your homework.
Don’t be afraid of your children.

2-d video games i think would hold up ok. 3d would fail because the graphics just arent comparable at all

Banned the Tools of modern life….
Jeez man. We’re talking about video games not the combustion engine

guess I just don’t see what benefit the games bring to my kids? What is the goal of this balance
When the government shuts down all activities for children they aren’t out committing crimes and killing people.

They should pretty much be self managing their study/play time by 5th or 6th grade.

I quit playing once I had kids - occasionally play when they ask.
One thing that I notice with my kids' games is there aren't a lot of games that have in-person co-op or competition.
Obviously, the internet made that obsolete, but that was something that ended up encouraging actual, in-person socialization and interaction, IMO.
This is how a lot of programmers get started.

My son taught himself a scripting language for one of the games he likes. Not anything super elaborate but I was impressed how he learned on his own how to make code do something. Especially since they don't teach anything like that in school anymore whereas growing up as a little kid in the 80s there were Apple or Commodore machines we learned BASIC on.

He said he doesn’t allow ANY tablet or device use. As children they’re mainly used for entertainment, I agree, but they’re still learning how to operate one and those skills do translate to adulthood.

Yea the emulators are pretty cool. I think they even do it now with standup arcade games from back in the day

Between first and 7th grade, I'm not sure they missed much. They probably haven't been introduced to trannyism, like most of the younger kids have.
I am tolerant of game use at my house, but have had to tell the kids to cut it off numerous times because of the people they were playing online with. Too many shitty people getting access to kids. Kids need guidance, far more than they are getting today.

Haha, they use all that stuff at school. It stays at school. I email my kids during the day as our way of communication.
You’re drastically over thinking this whole thing. We’re talking about playing video games, not sitting in a cabin churning butter

Lol some of my arguments when I was in elementary school was my 6th grade neighbor was out playing sports and not doing his homework. My mom still would say, well finish yours and you can go play.
